Toby watched her from across the room, painfully aware of the fact that she was watching someone else. He sighed and sipped at the half- full glass in his hand. It had been years since he had left high school and the teenage goofiness of young love. But here he was 45 years old with a teenage crush on a woman. She was beautiful. Tall
and slim, her long blond hair trailing down her back making his fingers itch to caress it. He watched her frown her eyes never straying from the man on the dance floor holding another woman. He longed to have her watch him in such a manner.

Suddenly she turned and her eyes caught his. She stared at him as he blinked in return. He tried to pry his gaze from hers but it was impossible. His breath caught in his throat as she smiled at him. Not a polite little "hi-I-see-you-staring-at-me" smile but a full-fledged
smile. She made her way across the crowded floor and stopped by his side.

"Hello," she stated softly.

"Hi," he grunted in return as an attempt to cover his embarrassment.

She stepped around him and leaned against the bar trying to get the bartenders attention. After placing an order for white wine she turned back to Toby. "Enjoying the party," she asked.

"As much as I always do," he replied non-committedly.

She nodded and looked past him to the dance floor. Her eyes once again seeking out Josh and the woman he held in his arms.

"They make a nice couple. Don't you think," she asked for his opinion. He glanced at the couple then turned back to her and shrugged. "Do you think they'll get married?"

He looked over his shoulder again. "Knowing our luck… most likely."

"You don't approve," she stated as she lifted her glass from the bar and took a drink.

He shrugged again. "Who am I to know which people make the best couples?"

"I use to think that I had found the man for me," she mused her eyes still watching Josh. "But now I'm not so sure."

"Someday Donna, you're going to open your eyes and see that the very thing you've been looking for is standing right there in front of you."

Her eyes darted back to him. "I know. I've just been waiting for you to realize it too."

He blinked at her in shock opening his mouth to reply but nothing came out.

She smiled at him indulgently. "I've been waiting for you for a long time," she confessed. "I'm getting tired of waiting."

"Really," he squeaked.

She nodded and placed her drink on the bar before reaching out to remove his glass from his hands and place it next to hers. Silently she pushed him onto the dance floor and moved into his arms. He held her close and they began to gently sway to the music.

"It's about time," Josh stated loudly as he and Amy danced next to Toby and Donna.

Donna smiled and hugged Toby closer. "I've just been waiting for someday to get here," she told him. She looked at Toby who was watching her. "Are you enjoying the party yet?"

Toby nodded. "Best party I've ever attended." He bent his head and kissed her as Josh watched smiling at his friends.

The End
