An Eternal Flame

-o-

The kiss is frenzied passion and torrid haste,

finger-tangled hair, clothes ripping, dew-tinged eyes,

like the cool, dark sun of mourning.

He's kissing her,

wild beasts in heat,

and she is not you.

.

Hearts beat with grim delight,

kiss of a razor upon silken skin,

beatific.

Bathe in burgundy, sip upon sweetest scarlet.

Blood and wine.

Wine and blood.

Tear forth wisps of hair, kneel upon the grains,

Sleep in shredded pages of the holy book.

.

Scream.

Shriek.

Mirrors broken upon the floor, cosmetics splashed against the wall,

shattered satin, ripped stone.

Sated eyes stare in disbelief,

gaze back in broken rage.

Lie, fluttering ashes ghost upon you,

remnants of sacred vows.

.

Refuse the milk and honey,

feast on water and fallen leaves.

Walk the desert upon cracked leaves,

swindle sacrilege from sanctity.

Holy fire carves a swath,

blackened rain of misfortune's delight does make an end.

Oh, sinner's kiss, of cheater's wanton thrusts,

leave me for the carnal rotten core of your forbidden fruit.

Rusted gold upon my heart, forsooth, forsake, forbid,

I turn now,

Thy pilgrimage, thy hope,

Bleed now for the tears of autumn rain.

.

In consequence or without,

you deny me sanctuary,

burning the moon, the cross, and the star.

Now, sinner, eyes of broken crystal,

Know that I will commit the same.
