Hi everyone! This is Angel Beats! (you probably won't understand this story unless you've watched the whole anime).

Please read and review, and tell me if I made any mistakes (or anything I could improve on). But this is my very first fanfiction, so please be nice!

DISCLAIMER: I do not own Angel Beats! or any of the characters.

On an average day in the busy city, crowds of people lumbered through the street. Each and every pedestrian walked past one another without any thought as to who they were. They never thought about the past or the future; only the present. Never wondering about fate, destiny, or life and death, they confined their thoughts, their souls, to trivial, earthly matters.

Although nothing of great importance was happening in particular, there was a certain feeling hanging in the air. Mysterious and subtle, the feeling was barely noticeable, but it implied that soon, fate would take its toll, and something meaningful would happen.

In the midst of this crowd of people, a young girl leaned on a wall. Wearing a pretty white dress and a hat that obscured her eyes, she had light silver hair in a ponytail. She stared off into space as if waiting for something. Alone and bored, the girl was humming a song that she liked.

The girl didn't remember where she had heard it, but she remembered every note of it as if she had just heard it the day before. Perhaps she had dreamed it.

Still humming the mysterious tune, the girl took out her cell phone and checked the time. Standing up, she prepared to leave, when…

A tall boy with orange hair walked a few feet past the silver-haired girl, and abruptly stopped. Hearing the tune that she hummed, he was suddenly reminded of a dream he had once had.

He didn't remember when he had dreamed it, but he remembered every detail about it as if he had had just dreamed it the day before.

In the dream, he was in a huge, abandoned place. His footsteps echoed ominously, and he felt lonely, almost scared. He turned around, and saw a young girl, who offered a smile of comfort. With beautiful, long, silver hair and kind, golden eyes that sparkled like the sun, she looked just like an angel.

The mysterious "angel" walked up to him, and he embraced her. Crying, he begged her not to leave, to stay with him forever.

Thump, thump, thump. His heart beat faster and faster, louder and louder, as if anticipating the angel's answer.

As she lifted her face up to him, he felt tears streaming down his cheeks.

"Thank you," she said in a soft voice, before disappearing in his arms.

Somehow, he felt that the song and the angel were connected…perhaps the girl was, too.

Thump, thump, thump. For reasons unknown, his heart was beating faster and louder now, as if anticipating something. Something told him that the girl was indeed connected with the angel. If he wanted to find out what the dream was about, and who the angel was, he had to go after the girl.

It was now or never. Fate would only give him one chance.

Just as the girl left, he turned around, and hurried after her. He reached out a tentative hand, and touched her shoulder.

She turned around, and his heart almost stopped. As the girl lifted her face up to him, he felt tears streaming down his cheeks.

Her eyes were beautiful; they were gold like the sun and filled with kindness. She was far more beautiful than any angel could ever dream to be.

Again, please review, everyone! Thank you!
