It's the sudden jumps in time and space that judder your nerves the most. One moment you're in the car with Peter thinking about Femat's piddling little theorem and the next you're in the living room, Asterisk staring expectantly at you. You've got a little silver top hat in your hand and… yes… you appear to be playing monopoly. And you have most of the paper money. Well now. That's nice. Except you're not sure how or when you got here, or when Peter left. Or when he's coming back. Don't panic.
These jumps are happening so often now that you're tempted to ask someone whether you've invented a time machine that you're no longer aware of. You open your mouth to ask and then shut it again, pile up your paper money and put a little in your pockets in case you need to go to the store later. Best not to ask. They'll only get upset if you've forgotten something as big as a time machine.
