A Magic Carpet Ride

"Do you trust me?"

"Yes…" She takes his hand.

And then Jasmine's on a magic carpet, soaring through the air. Wind whips back her hair, and Prince Ali points sights out to her, showing her her home from an entirely different perspective.

The whole city glows, windows shimmering like jewels from the candlelight. Seemingly from nowhere, Ali picks a blossom, placing it gently in her hand. She decides this is her new favorite flower, and tucks into her hair.

The carpet rises higher, and they're up above the clouds, so close to the sky Jasmine believes that if she wanted, she could touch the stars… To her, everything seems so much clearer in the sky. She takes a deep breath, enthralled in the beauty around her. The sky seems endless, the stars like diamonds…

And then they're plunging down, and Jasmine feels as if her stomach was left behind on a cloud. She closes her eyes, certain that they are about to crash…

"Don't you dare close your eyes," Ali says, lifting her hands from her face. Jasmine realizes that with him beside her, there really isn't a reason to be afraid.

They wave and smile as they pass a man working on a sculpture, then descend to fly next to the horses that are racing across the plains. Reaching down, Jasmine smiles as she pets a gangly colt, his mane tangled with the wind.

The carpet takes them through a little grove of trees, and Ali reaches up to pluck an apple, performing a trick she once saw someone from the market do…Delighted, she leans into him briefly.

Then they are above a lake, the twinkling stars reflected in the crystalline water. Jasmine trails a hand in the water, smiling at the reflection of her and Ali.

Hands clasped, her head on his shoulder, Jasmine lets him lead her to their next destination—a fireworks display, colors bursting in the sky, raining down likes so many multicolored fireflies…

Later, when they fly back up to her balcony, he helps her off, and she finds herself wishing the night would go on forever. Leaning over the railing, she begins speaking to him again, not really paying attention to what she's saying, lost in his eyes…

And suddenly, his mouth is on hers. Her eyes are wide, and as she closes them, Jasmine realizes this kiss is everything she has ever wanted. When their kiss ends, she smiles, not quite knowing what to say, and walks inside, silken curtains falling back in place with a whisper behind her. She dreamily sits in front of her mirror, brushing her hair. The flower Ali gave her is in a vase, reminding her of a very special magic carpet ride. Humming, she looks up as her father calls her.

Jasmine decides she must tell him the news. She has chosen her suitor.

She is in love with Prince Ali.
