A/N: JUST A QUICK NOTE, THIS FIC DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE MILITARY R&I X-OVER.
I ALSO DO NOT OWN ANY RECOGNIZABLE CHARACTERS. I ALSO TOOK THE PASSAGE FROM THE CAPTAIN FROM AN ARTICLE I READ AND ALTERED IT TO FIT THE STORY
Regina sat rigidly in her seat; no matter how many times she flew she never fully got used to the sensation of flying 30,000 feet in the air.
She took out her keys and ran her fingers over the raised letters of the dog tags. She lost herself in her memories and let a serene smile cross her face. She sighed.
"Going home?"
Regina turned to her neighbor and smiled softly.
"Yes. I'm finally going home." She went from playing the dog tags to playing with the silver band that adorned her left ring finger.
"Do you have a husband waiting for you?" The woman nodded toward the ring.
"No. No husband."
"A wife, then?"
"Emma. My Emma."
"Beautiful name."
"A beautiful name for a gorgeous woman." Regina replied. She shifted slightly and grabbed her wallet. She pulled out a well-loved picture.
"They are beautiful," the woman said as she looked at the picture of a blonde woman with piercing green eyes carrying a small brunette boy on her shoulders.
"What's your son's name?"
"Henry. And he is the light of my life. I can't wait to get home and see him. This is my last…mission…if you will and then I get to stay at home full time with my little boy."
"I imagine he feels the same about seeing you. I bet he can't wait to hold his momma."
Regina sniffled and mumbled her thanks and put the picture back in her wallet.
Regina spent the rest of the flight talking with her neighbor. She told her stories of how she and Emma had first met in boot camp many years ago. She told her stories of how she proposed to Emma and how the wedding was almost ruined by sudden rain.
"Emma always said there is nothing more romantic than kissing the person you love in the rain. I guess God was listening because as soon as she said 'I do' the heavens opened up and down came all of the rain. My dress was almost ruined and Emma's uniform was getting uncomfortable, but she just smiled and said 'I love you, Gina. And even God approves.' We laughed about it every year on our anniversary." She gave a sad smile. "It's been 8 years since that day."
Her neighbor squeezed her hand in response. Regina continued to tell stories of adopting Henry as a baby and how the dealt with him during bath time as he liked to soak everybody to the bone. She told the story of how she stayed home with Henry during Emma's second deployment. For hours she talked about life with her family.
Soon the plane began it's decent into the airport in Augusta, Maine. Regina prepared herself for the announcement to come as it did on the connecting flight prior to this one. She squared her shoulders and brushed some lint off of her uniform.
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is your Captain speaking. I have stopped a bit short of our gate to make an announcement. We have a passenger on board that deserves our honor and respect. Her is Sergeant Emma Swan, a Marine who recently lost her life. Sgt. Swan is below your feet in the cargo hold. She is escorted by her wife, Marine Staff Sergeant Regina Mills. Your entire flight crew is asking for all passengers to remain in their seats to allow Sgt. Swan's wife to exit the aircraft first. Thank you."
Regina ignored all of the sudden gasps and offered only a stiff nod to the condolences. She squared her shoulders and walked off the plane and onto the flight deck. With one final salute, as her wife's body was loaded into the hearse, Regina climbed into the passenger's seat.
Emma was finally coming home.
A/N2: I APOLOGIZE FOR THIS. I SAW THE MOVIE TAKING CHANCE AND IT LED TO A NIGHTMARE ABOUT MY SOMEONE ESCORTING MY FATHER HOME. I FIGURED IF I WROTE ABOUT IT THEN MAYBE IT WONT HAPPEN TO HIM.
