Season's Kisses
Snow was glistening on the ground. Deer were racing through the forest. Evergreens were standing tall all over Sanctuary. And Lexa Pierce was grouchy.
She was curled up in a ball on the couch, arms crossed over her chest, and a scowl gracing her face. Her cool blue eyes glared at the three members of Mutant X, who floated around Sanctuary, placing garlands, ornaments, and other various holiday decorations.
"Christmas," she snorted. "Please. Christmas is just a stupid excuse to buy things and to take a day off from work."
Which is exactly what Mutant X was doing. They were far too busy to take time for a holiday.
"Stupid," she repeated under her breath.
"Hey guys, popcorn's ready!" Shalimar announced, carrying two brimming bowls of freshly popped corn.
The three settled down to string popcorn for tree decorations. A sly grin spread across Brennan's face as he chucked a fistful of popcorn at Shalimar.
"Hey!" Shalimar giggled tossing some back. Seconds later, a full out food fight was in progress, accompanied by huff and eye-rolling from Lexa.
Shalimar took off, leaping over the couch Lexa was occupying. Brennan began to follow her with a full bowl of popcorn. Suddenly, he tripped over a box of decorations, and the bowl slipped out of his hands. In an instant Lexa found herself covered in salty popcorn.
Shal, Jesse, and Brennan collapsed into giggles. Lexa simply stood and began to stomp out of the room. Jesse ran to catch her, grabbing her arm.
"Hey, hey. Come on, Lexa. Help us decorate," Jesse pleaded.
"I hate Christmas," Lexa pouted.
"Hey guys," Shalimar laughed. "You're under the mistletoe."
"So?" Lexa snorted.
Jesse suddenly pulled her close and swept her into a dip, his lips pressed softly against hers. Shal and Brennan whistled and clapped loudly. Jesse grinned as Lexa's cheeks flushed brightly.
"What was that for?" She hissed.
"You've never heard of kissing under the mistletoe?" Brennan teased.
"Oh, right," Lexa gave a slight smile. "So, we going to decorate?"
"I thought you hated Christmas?" Jesse raised an eyebrow.
"It's not so bad," she shrugged. As she passed, she leaned in close to Jesse and whispered in his ear. "So, where'd you guys hang the rest of that mistletoe?"
