The town was up in smoke all around them. Bonnie, Liv, and Luke were standing in a circle chanting. The flames grew larger and all Caroline could do was stand in watch. Damon and Elena were standing hand in hand. Jeremy and Matt were on fire control, making sure the flames stayed in the town limits. This was the place they all grow up in, and it was falling apart; burning to the ground. It was the only way.
They could hear windows breaking, everything was growing louder as the witches kept chanting. They think they found a way to bring everyone back. Caroline was standing nervously as she watched everything around her. She didn't want to hope too much; she didn't want to feel pain again if Stefan really was gone for good. But, she couldn't stop hoping. She wanted to see his face again. She needed him to be there with her because she felt so alone.
Suddenly a gust of wind started to get stronger around the witches. Black smoke grew thicker and soon a shadow appeared within it. Caroline gasped. Had it worked? Again, another cloud of black smoke appeared with a shadow. The smoke was getting thicker and covering more space. Bonnie, Liv, and Luke were now hidden within it.
All at once the smoke cleared. It left behind the witches and the two shadows.
"Stefan." Caroline said with tears in her eyes. Not wasting anytime, she rushed toward him.
"Caroline." he whispered into her hair as he wrapped his arms around her.
"I thought I'd never see you again." she wasn't trying to hide her sobs.
"I know. I know." he said soothingly.
"I can't believe you. You did that for me. You saved me. I'm never going to be able to repay you." she was talking so fast, wanting to get it all out.
"It's okay, Caroline. I kept my promise."
She pulled away and looked into his eyes. "I thought I'd never be able to look into your eyes again."
Stefan didn't say anything, he only smiled.
Caroline looked down at his lips. "I thought I'd never get to see that smile again."
Stefan pulled her in closer. He never realized how much simply being near her meant to him. "I've missed you." he whispered.
Caroline couldn't take it anymore. She put her lips to his. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him to her.
He didn't stop her, he didn't pull away. He grabbed her waist her hugged her tight.
"We should probably get out of here." Stefan said when they finally broke apart.
Caroline looked around at the flames that surrounded them. "That's probably a good idea."
