"I could come and see you. We could meet half way." Serena shouted after Bernie. She didn't care who saw. she didn't care who knew anymore. All she cared about was stopping the trauma surgeon from leaving.

"Stop, please!" Bernie pulled her arm away from the other woman's grasp. Leaving Serena was the furthest thing from what she wanted but it was for the best, wasn't it? How could she stay clouding Serena's thoughts. The brunette needed to work out what she wanted, on her own, so she didn't feel pressured into something she didn't want. It hurt seeing Serena so upset but Bernie knew it was for the best so she gave her one last apologetic glance before continuing to walk to the exit of AAU.

"You can't leave." The blonde was halfway out of the door. What could she say? what could she do? She couldn't just let her walk away, leave for months. "I love you" the whole ward was stunned to silence only the low buzz of machines could be heard. The words had left her mouth before she'd even realised what she was going to say but she was glad they had, because now the blonde was no longer walking further away from her but instead had turned to face her, a bewildered expression across her face.

"What did you just say?" Bernie had heard her very clearly the first time but she had to check her mind wasn't playing tricks on her.

"I love you. Don't go" she finally spoke about her feelings with confidence. "I don't need to work out how I feel Bernie because I already know." She stood waiting for something, anything, to come from the blonde, "Bernie?".

Still frozen against the doors to AAU, the trauma surgeon realised how wrong she had been. What had she been thinking? How could she leave the woman that she loved? She dropped her bag to the floor and moved forward closing the distance between them and letting the door slam shut behind her. "I love you too." Serena let out a sigh of relief as a tear rolled down her face. Bernie took the final few steps to remove any space between her and Serena. The pair stood gazing into each other's eyes before the brunette made the first move and was happy to be met halfway by Bernie's lips.

There was no cheers of congratulations in the background breaking the intimacy of their moment but just looks of understanding from their colleagues as the two women , who where clearly made for each other, separated and Serena smiled at Bernie before collapsing into her embrace. Her big macho army medic was going nowhere.
