Draco walked into the potions classroom, first in as usual, and sat down in his usual place, near the front of the classroom. Whilst waiting for the lesson to begin, he pulled out his potions book and had a skim through.
After a few minutes, a familiar voice echoed down the corridor, getting closer and closer. Granger entered the classroom, followed by Potter and Weasley. She seemed to be having a heated discussion with Weasley, as they both looked irritated and sat either side of Potter. Draco smirked, his cold grey eyes never leaving Granger's face-not that she noticed...Nor did he for that matter.
As he sat there, taking in her features, he noticed certain things that he never had before. He noticed how, even in the dim light of the dungeon, her smooth brown hair had golden steaks running through it and that her hair was not nearly as frizzy as it had been the day he met her. He noticed how her chestnut brown eyes concentrated hard on the book in front of her and how her face lit up when she learned something new. He even noticed how she scowled whenever she looked at Weasley.
Weasley, he thought to himself darkly.
Draco despised the way he treated Granger.
Granger was intelligent, witty, opinionated…gorgeous.
She's just a stupid mudblood, he tried to convince himself.
Mudblood. Intelligent. Mudblood. Witty. Mudblood. Opinionated. Mudblood. Beautiful.
His train of thought was cut off when professor Slughorn entered the classroom. He quickly entered his trance again. All he could think about was Granger. No. Hermione, he told himself.
What would his father think if he knew what was going through his head right now?
The lesson eventually ended and he got up quickly to pack his stuff away. He turned around to look at Hermione and saw herself, Weasley and Potter walking towards the door. He couldn't look away… As they walked by, Draco caught Hermione's eye. She stopped abruptly, and turned to him.
"Problem, Malfoy?" She asked angrily.
"Yes" He said quickly.
All his friends were watching.
"You are a Mudblood." He sneered harshly.
His friends burst into fits of laughter, howling like wolves.
Hermione looked hurt at first, but her expression turned stony.
"Fine" she said curtly. "I couldn't care less what a pathetic ferret thinks about me." She retorted and stalked off, Potter and Weasley right behind her, flashing looks of disgust at Draco.
He felt awful as soon as he said it.
Glad my friends found it amusing, he thought darkly to himself and he packed his stuff away, marching out of the room angrily.
That night, Draco came to realise he was in love with Hermione Granger.
He also came to realise he had ruined any chance he may or may not have had with her, and that was something he regretted deeply.
A/N:
I know, I know. That was terrible! I was simply bored...
