Draco looks around to make sure no one else is in his dorm room. The coast is clear. Draco pulls out his trunk and digs to the bottom where he keeps his most private personal belongings. He pulls out a long tie. Only it wasn't green and silver, but that was because it wasn't his. It was red and gold. It was Harry Potter's tie. Harry had forgotten it when he'd taken it off because it was too hot out to wear a tie and Draco had snatched it up before Harry could come looking for it.
What am I doing wrong? Heh, maybe the right question is what have I been doing right? All I've done is pick on him like I'm some five-year-old kid picking on his crush. Draco sits on his bed staring at the tie and rubbing the red and gold material between his thumb and index finger longingly. Why couldn't we have been sorted into the same house? I would be a Gryffindor even though I loathe the whole bunch of them if it meant I could be closer to Harry.
"What do you have there Draco?" Pansy calls startling Draco. Draco stuffs the tie into his pocket, but he wasn't quick enough to keep Pansy from glimpsing a flash of red and gold. Pansy moves closer and snatches the tie from Draco's pocket easily because it had been sticking out a bit. "What is this? A Gryffindor tie? Why would you have this?"
"Just give it back Pansy!" Draco shouts angrily reaching for the tie, but Pansy was too quick. She raised it above her head and out of Draco's reach. Draco reaches for it once more in vain.
"Answer my question and I'll give it back. Why were you hiding a Gryffindor tie in your trunk?" Pansy questions Draco bemused.
"No reason," Draco sniffs crossing his arms and jutting his chin out at her in a snobby way.
"Then you won't mind it if I were to throw it in the common room fire," Pansy sneers.
"No don't!" Draco panics reaching for the tie frantically.
"Interesting… whose tie is this? To make you react like that it must be someone very important to you," Pansy inquires her voice silky. "Tell me what Gryffindor you swiped this tie from because I doubt it was given to you voluntarily and I'll give it back."
Draco weighs his options. Tell Pansy risking being ridiculed, tortured and tormented for the rest of his time at Hogwarts and maybe get the tie back or don't tell her and let her throw the tie in the fire. He didn't fancy the idea of the tormented and tortured part, but at least he'd have the tie…
"It's Potter's…" Draco mutters hanging his head.
"Harry Potter's? But why would you have his tie? It's not like he's really going to miss it much… wait! No way! Tell me it's not true! You haven't actually fallen in love with Potter?" Pansy asks her eyes wide in horror.
"Keep your voice down for Salazar's sake!" Draco hisses as he swipes the tie from Pansy and stows it safely in his trunk.
"But Draco you know what the odds of something like that are, right?" Pansy says aghast.
"I'm not stupid Pansy! I know it'll never happen, but I just can't get rid of these feelings because believe me I've tried. Do you think I actually like the idea of being in love with him of all people?" Draco tells Pansy his voice full of scorn and hurt.
"No, I'm sorry," Pansy apologizes.
"If you're really sorry then you won't tell anyone else about this," Draco snaps at her.
"What if…" Pansy trails off. "I mean it couldn't hurt…"
"What are you thinking Pansy? You're scary when you make that face," Draco tells her suddenly on the defensive.
"What if I help get you and Potter together?" Pansy suggests. "It can't hurt right? If it works, awesome, if it doesn't you're back where you were in the beginning."
"Y-you'd do that? For me?" Draco stammers not believing his ears.
"What can I say? I'm a hopeless romantic," Pansy sighs shrugging her shoulders.
