The bright light burned my eyes. I rubbed my eyes gently. My legs wobbled. It's the first time I've walked on the bare ground. I looked at the scene in front of me. A field of long, tall grass surrounded me. The sky was a beautiful shade of blue. The clouds made their way, moving with a easy, gentle, motion towards the far side of the sky.
The scene was absolutely beautiful to me. My first time seeing the outside of the laboratory, something I've dreamed of since I was first trapped in the hell hole. A sudden crashing sound caught me off guard. I turned around to face the noise. The large, metallic door opened. 'Oh no, please no.' I thought to myself. After all I've been through with that insane A.I. There was no way I'd go through it again.
Instead of GLaDOS, I was met by the companion cube. The large door finally closed, forever. My eyes began to water. This was too much for me. I've gained my freedom from GLaDOS, and now I have my companion cube. I picked up the cube gently holding it in my hands, as if it were a newborn baby.
I walked north. I didn't know where I was going. All I wanted to do was find somewhere to rest my aching, tired body.
After some time, I found a small town. I smiled. Maybe I'll finally meet someone like me, human. I walked through the entrance of the town. My smile quickly faded after I realized the town was semi-destroyed. The buildings stood, but some of their sides were missing. I decided I might as well make myself at home here. Who knows? I've could have lived here before I entered Aperture.
I entered a small home that seemed to be untouched by whatever took this city down. I set the cube down on the floor. I rubbed my tired arm. All those times holding the portal gun are now over. I laid down on the bed. My body finally relaxed. The orange tint the sunset gave off was beautiful. I rolled to my side. Now I can relax in peace.
I awoke in the early morning. Now the sun gave off a blue tint. I chuckled at the irony, at first it was orange and now it's blue. Just like a portal gun. I stood up, my bones giving a slight crack. I decided I'd look around the house for anything that might become useful. As I walked through the main part of the house, I noticed a brightly colored book. It was bond with leather and string. I thought I'd just take a quick look and keep looking for useful items.
I grabbed the book with caution and sat in a oversized, soft chair. My eyes examined the book. The cover of the book said in bright, bold lettering, "Johnson's Photo Album." 'Where have I heard that name from?' I wondered to myself.
