Theory of how I assume it went down written as crack.
"-so what I'm saying is that it might be a good idea to have cut-outs of the other qualifying middle school students. You know, just in case."
Like, just in case Genma happened to fall into an underground labyrinth beneath their school through a trap door or something. Haha, you couldn't really predict 'em, these silly things just happened sometimes! Of course, Shido hadn't explained it to him quite like that, but it was relieving when the middle school principal with the accent so thick you couldn't even understand his name when he said it seemed to take his suggestion seriously anyway.
"And if I know Suzuha Amanosuzu, she'll probably be late because she got caught up in doing her hair or something." Shido didn't believe in being fashionably late – and he already had perfect hair anyway, so he didn't even need to be late to be considered fashionable in the first place! "And who even knows about that Jin Magatsu guy?"
Then the principal with the impossible accent decided that this was the most sensible idea he'd heard from a student all year.
"Now zat I am zinking about it, I could even make zis fit into the pre-tournament introductions I 'ave plan'!" Which Shido was not actually supposed to know about. He was feeling rather smug for having discovered anyway, nodding enthusiastically in agreement, at least until the principal added, "An' you can 'elp me make zem!"
"Wha... make... What?"
Shido was the student council president! He didn't have time to waste on artsy activities like that, that's what the art club was for, and these boots had just been polished yesterday, so he couldn't-
-Oh. Shido had been left alone again.
"...Whatever. At least it'll be perfect now that I'm working on it."
Shido's a good character. Also, I love the themes for this series.
