Benji-Man To The Rescue

Benji stood on the pavement across from Marlene's apartment. He glanced at his watch; she should be home soon. He knew her schedule better than the back of his hand.

Right on cue, she turned on to the street, her beautiful, silky hair blowing softly in the wind. Benji sighed; he loved the way that she walked with such confidence like a supermodel on a runway. He longed to speak to her, to be with her but every time he made a move to approach her, she blanked him.

But he was adamant that this would change: one way or another.

He admired her arse as she placed her key in the lock and walked into her building. He bounced up and down, his hand reaching for the remote in his pocket. Benji knew what he was about to do was crazy but it was the only way.

Benji waited until he saw the light flicker to life in the window before pressing the button on the remote. The explosion that followed was deafening.

People from all over flooded onto the street in curiosity and looked up at the apartment building. Fire was all that could be seen at Marlene's window. Benji fought the urge to smile as his plan began to work.

He closed his eyes and strained his ears.

"HELP! SOMEBODY HELP ME!" Marlene's angelic voice cried as she banged against a surface.

The onlookers began to chatter amongst themselves and look to the sky. Benji took this as his cue.

He slipped away from the scene and ducked into the alleyway. In a flash, he had stripped his clothes and was wearing his superhero costume.

Benji crouched down and propelled himself upwards and into the sky.

The people on the ground gasped and cheered as he soared towards the window. He took a deep breath and blew the fire, swiftly putting it out.

He flew through the window and landed on the ground in front of Marlene.

"Never fear, Benji-Man is here!" he exclaimed, placing his hands on his hips and giving Marlene his trademark smile.

"Oh, Benji-Man," Marlene said, rushing towards him and flinging her arms around his neck. "You saved me. Thank you."

"All part of the job, Ma'am," Benji replied, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her closer. "And it is my pleasure; it's not every day you get to rescue a beautiful lady."

Marlene giggled. "You think I'm beautiful."

"I'm a man, Ma'am; I'd have to be insane not to notice your beauty," Benji laughed, releasing her from his grasp and scooping her up into his arms. "Shall we?"

The dark haired woman nodded her head excitedly. Benji made sure he had hold of her securely before making his way over to the window and flying out through it.

He did a lap around the square where the apartment was located, his gaze never leaving Marlene's perfect face, before landing next to the fire engine to the cheers and cries of his adoring fans.

"Benji-Man, thank you," Marlene said, kissing him softly on the cheek.

"Out of the way… I said get out the way," a voice boomed.

The crowd of people parted and through them walked a tall, muscular man.

"Fabian!" Marlene cried, rushing away from Benji and rushing toward the newest arrival and kissing him deeply.

Benji felt his heart breaking into two. She was taken. Of course she was. How could he have been so foolish as to think that someone as beautiful as her was available?

"Ahem, Benji-Man," one of the police officers said, approaching him at a brisk pace. "There is a robbery in progress at a bank down town."

"Say no more, Sir," Benji said, taking one last longing glance at Marlene. "Benji-Man to the rescue."

He crouched down and propelled himself into the sky, away from the woman he had been in love with for as long as he could remember, and towards the bank. There were people there, deserving people, who needed his help.
