The swaying of the trees in the wind. The crunching of leaves under my feet. Those are the sounds I heard as i ran through the woods. The stars lit my path as I ran away. All my life nobody cared about me, I wanted to get away.

I sat down by a lake, moon reflected to be quite peaceful. I'll stay here for the night, I thought. I took the hairtie out of my hair to let my red hair fall to my shoulders. I dipped my hand in the water to make ripples, like how little kids do. But as I stuck my whole hand in the water, I felt that water calling to me, I couldn't tell what or why, it just... called to me.

I decided to jump in the water for a swim, but still with my clothes on. Instead I kept sinking deeper into the water. I guess it's deeper than I thought., I thought to myself. I opened my eyes to see that the water was a light blue, as if sunlight was shining through it. I saw a number of different fish, but mostly squid. Squid in a lake? Strange., I thought. About a second after, I blacked out.

When I woke up, it looked to be sunrise. I was in an alleyway, in what looked to be a city of some sort. Where am I?, I thought.

"Maybe someone can tell me.", I said to myself. I went to hold my head but my hair felt strangely smooth. Huh? I remembered the mirror compact in my pocket and pulled it out.

In the mirror was a girl with orange tentacle-like hair, set in pigtails. She blinked when I did, and looked just as confused. "This is me?" I asked myself.

I walked out of the alleyway to find squid-like people walking around. I tried to find an adult who looked trustworthy, which took a while because everyone is a stranger to me. I decided to give up and ask any adult.

"Excuse me?", I said to a woman with similar hair to mine, only green. "Do you mind telling me where I am?" I asked in the most innocent voice I could produce.

"Well sure honey, your in Inkopolis, now what's a inkling like yourself doing out here?", I assumed that "inklings" are what the squid-people were called.

"I don't know, I can't remember nearly anything past a few minutes ago", I lied.

"Where are your parents?", she asked.

"I don't have any parents", I told her.

"Aww, you poor thing", she responded. "You know what? I happen to have an extra room in my house, you can live with me. What's your name?" she asked.

"Andrea", I answered.

"Well, my name is Mina. You can me Ms. Mina until you're comfortable around me." she told me. "How old are you?"

"13"

And just like that, I got in 20 minutes what I've wanted my whole life, someone to love me.
