I decided to write this after my first ever expedition into the Darkest Dungeon, also I have a mod for a female Occultist which is why she's female. Warning violence towards animals.

The party was comprised of renowned and celebrated hero's, Sapphira the silent but powerful bounty hunter who vanquished the bandit leader Vvulf, the master of of the occult Salem who kept her allies alive in many circumstances most notably long grueling crusades against the swine and fish folk, the former lawman Boone with his trusty companion the hound Theodore who had eviscerated the horrific and formless flesh as well as protecting his allies against the god of the swine, and finally bring up the rear was the slippery grave robber Prim who's knives were the bane of many Eldritch abominations landing the killing blow on fiends such as the god of swine, the mad prophet and the forsaken miller. These four are the most hardened and decorated of veterans which is why they were chosen to be the first champions to face the Darkest Dungeon.

The four legendary heroes had no troubles cutting their way through insane worshippers and Eldritch infected creatures slaughtering most foes before they could react, and avoiding on the off chance the monsters were able to act. The four made their way through the horrific blood stained corridors without fears or worries relishing in the combat at laughing at their pathetic foes undignified deaths. The jolly march came to a slight halt after Theodore, who was scouting ahead, ran to Boone panicked and whimpering.

"What's wrong boy?" Boone began comforting his friend.

"Your familiar is started, what sort of devilry has he discovered?" Salem inquires with a hint of fear.

"Whatever the hell he found can't be that bad this place has been a cakewalk. My guess he saw under the hood on one of those creepy priest things" Prim casually remarks.

"No whatever he saw must be bad, even that mess of flesh didn't startle him like this" Boone comments continuing to comfort the dog.

"Animals have strong instincts, we should prepare for the worst." The normally silent Sapphira's concern won over the party. The four of them started a fire patches up the few scratches they had between them, cleared their minds and ran through some strategies.

"The fire grows cold and my hands restless, let's put this monster down." Sapphira was the first to stand drawing her ax.

"It's about damn time, I wanna get out of here, there are a few ladies waiting for my return to the brothel"

"But...the familiar rest upon my lap?" Salem, who Theodore was using as a pillow, strongly opposed to the idea of moving.

"As much as I'd like to let him rest the atmosphere here is...less than ideal" After responding Boone gives a heavy sigh. "I have concerns for what lies ahead. It was enough to scare Theodore..."

"No way in hell your backing out now." Liz shouts interrupting Boone and stirring Theodore. "We are right next to what must be the boss of these things, in other words our target. And I'm certain you've noticed all the cultist watching us from afar. If we try to make a run for it there's no way we all get past all of them, and I'm not about to see one of us get stabbed in the back running with our tails between our legs because the dog got spooked. I much prefer our chances fighting the thing head on at least then we all get a fighting chance."

"I agree with Prim." Sapphira bluntly states. With a sigh from Boone and a pout from Salem the four picked up their stuff and made haste to the spiked and blood soaked passageway corpses both fresh and ancient littering the ground, and despite Theodore's reluctance the four entered the room.

Surrounding by bones, flesh, and countless sacrifices a creature bearing a horrifying resemblance to the Shambler, who already plagued the hero's nightmares, yet more terrifying with eyes, teeth, tentacles, and spikes littered across its form. It excreted an overwhelming aroma of decay and despair. Upon entering, the horror turned's many eyes fixed on the party. From behind it one of the deformed priest took notice as well. Prim quick grabbed for her tonic and after quickly downing it she yelled out.
"It's just an ugly shambler! We've got this!"
"Theodore cover Salem!" Boone quickly commands as Theodore runs to Salem's side. Salem uses her powers to weaken the monster as Sapphira darts ahead plunging her ax into its flesh causing it to spray purple Ichor. It let out a powerful scream that was a mix of pain and blood thirst throwing Sapphira back behind the others. The priest opened its robes revealing its hideous form shooting a claw at the already dazed bounty hunter sinking into her flesh. Prim hurled her dagger at the priest forcing it to let up on its assault. Prim focused the priest drawing its attention while the others focused on the creature. After a couple whiffed throws Prim plunges a knife deep into the priest skull exclaiming, "Ha! One down one to go!" Hearing their companion inspires the party. Boone throws Theodore a treat as he rushes in tearing the things flesh with his teeth, Salem runs to Sapphira's side to mend her wounds but she shrugs her off and gestures towards the thing, so Salem charges up sticking her dagger into one of the many eyes, Sapphira follows right behind her and hacks off one of the tentacle causing the purple liquid to pour out. The horror plunges its claws into the bounty hunters opening a giant gash coloring her armor in a bubbling scarlet. Sapphire stumbling backwards her eyes beginning to glaze over, Salem ran to her side.
"Than..." as Sapphira began to speak the priest shot back up and charged brandishing blades, Sapphira shoves Salem away before being cleaved clean in half from the torso then slit across the legs and jaw for no reason other the brutalizing the remains. As her top fell backwards blood sprayed from her jaw covering Salem, upon landing the head mostly broke off of the neck staying attacked by just some remains of the skin. Her legs folded underneath themselves with her boots still firmly grounded and her bloodied bones sticking up. The whole party was frozen for a moment until Salem's screams echoed out,
"NOOOOOO! We're all gonna die! FM'LATGH, GRAH'N Y'LW'NAFH N'GHFT!"
"No! We've still got this! She cut the hell out of it! Finish it for her!" Prim yells out while driving a knife deep into the monsters side. The three remaining hero's reluctantly continued to fight on with fear in their hearts until finally Salem hit the breaking point.
"It's pointless! Just take me to the abyss!" She broke into a sprint straight towards the beast. "MNAH GL'AK OBOOSHUU FTAGUH. HOM NGLUI!" She plunged her dagger into the monsters flesh then stopped in front of it and stood waiting, as the horror ripped the torso from her and shred it to pieces with it's teeth.
"Shit." Prim whispered to herself.
"We have not choice but to fight on now, it seems weak we have a chance." Boone tells her while giving Theodore the last treat. So in ran Theodore and Prim the two masterfully evading every attack from the horror while Boone distracted the priest. Prim was finessing in attacks at every opening and Theodore was protecting her, until Prims stamina failed her and in the moment she took a breath, the claws came down on her. She was thrown to the side with a stream of blood behind her, she hit the wall with enough force to snap her legs, causing her to cry out in pain.
"Damn...so close...I don't want to die." Tears begin welling up in her eyes as Theodore runs up nuzzles her side and licks her face. "...good...boy." Prim barely wheezes out. The horror by this point is on them, Theodore turns and growls only to be sliced down the middle, it then moves forward and swallows Prim whole leaving no trace of her even existing. Boone could do nothing but watch in fear as this all transpired, with no options left he made a run for the exit but before he could reach the priest shot its finger forward punching his skull killing him in a glory less instant. The hamlet laid in wait for weeks before accepting they would never return.
