Summary: Sam has a problem.
Sam has a problem. Similar to one of the annoying math variety, it works at her brain, driving it to near short-circuit, and she's never been further from an answer.
Sam's problem has been around for a while now. Sam's problem was forced upon her when her own Mother turned traitor and joined the dark side.
Or what she had perceived to be the dark side.
And so then Sam was stuck. In the same house with the very problem that drove her crazy. Kept sleepless nights around as a regular thing.
It forces her to frequently be in the presence of a smile so warm and captivating, is has the power to melt the thickest iceberg into a mushy lump.
And Sam's heart had not been warm before.
Had not been whole.
And even though she hates it, even though she knows it's sick and twisted, she finds herself loving her problem. Unable to solve it, but unable to stop herself from trying. Wanting to understand why there are smiles that were not there before. Why gentle touches have turned into almost-caresses. Why her problem is looking at her differently.
She's always looked at her problem the same. As something that isn't really a problem at all, more of a puzzle. And once she finds the key, she'll be able to crack the code and claim the prize.
For now she works at it, trying to figure it out, hating herself a lot of the time. Because it goes against everything she's made everyone else believe about her.
Because when Brooke says jump, Sam can't help but ask, "How high?"
