But when he started missing Perry the Platypus and tried to reverse it? It wouldn't work.

It figures that the only invention that worked would be the one he wanted to not work.

So he was stuck with assigning the agents pieces.

The pawns could be anyone. The snail and the rhino, cat and dog, rooks. Owl, raccoon; Duck, goose; bishops. Dingo, pig, cow, rabbit, knights.

Perry and Peter, though...King or Queen? Which to be the protector, or the protected? Opposite matching sides, maybe?

No. Perry would always be his king. But Peter will be the opposite queen.

The last two pieces...A deer would be the other king.

But who to protect Perry? Who to be his queen, together for all time? Who could protect that Platypus?

He set up the inator again, and fired it. It hadn't been the same, after all.
