A/N: I just thought about this story. On Thanksgiving no less. But, it's not going to be all Thanksgivingyy. But, Happy Thanksgiving! :]
Disclaimer: I don't own spiral. If you say a word Kousuke I will kick you so hard. Better yet, Ryoko will!
Kousuke: *Cricket Sounds*
A Spiral Summer
Hiyono's POV:
I look across the green field. I can smell the rice ball Ayumu has packed. I hear Rio laughing and running being chased by a stray dog. It's surprising because she's usually scared of the little dogs. I laugh. Sometimes she is so naive. I reach for the basket but, instead Kousuke grabs it away from me.
"Hiyono, if you eat anymore food your going to get fat."
"You're so mean, Kousuke."
Kanone's cat rubs against me. It's amazing how dog and cat can sometimes get along. A White Butterfly glides through the air and lands near the lake. I see Kanone staring at it. As, if remembering a memory. I sigh.
"Here, Hiyono."
"Thank you," I automatically reply. I smile. It's such a nice day.
I spy Eyes sleeping under a nearby tree, a melon clutched in his hand. Rio walks over to him and I see him open one eye. Rio laughs and struggles to take the patterned melon from his hands. The wind is calm and a volley ball rolls down the hill I'm sitting on. That's when I see him. Ayumu. He's sitting in the car, a cooking magazine perched on his head. I can tell he's asleep. He looks so serene and peaceful. And just like that the picture changes and cold wind blows. I shiver, remembering my sweater is still in the car. I reach for the volleyball, stand up and look around. Ryoko is running down the hill towards me. She skids to a stop and I hand her the ball. I point to Ayumu.
"He needs a better hobby than sleeping."
"I know exactly what you mean," she says sighing and looking towards Kousuke. Kanone's cat meow's at my feet and I remember that he's still there. I reach into the basket and pull out some bread. There's a note on it. Good, I picked out the right one.
"Here, Ryoko."
"Thanks," she says and looks at the thin paper. She reads it aloud. "Here's your stupid bread, Ryoko. From Kousuke." I laugh at her and she shakes her head. She walks around toward Kousuke, ball and bread in hand.
"That was nice of you. To help him. I saw you talking to him earlier." I shiver, but I'm not cold. He always does this to me. I turn around and face him.
"I thought you were sleeping."
"You think too much, that's your problem." He pulls me close and I sigh enveloped in his arms. He kisses me on the cheek. My eyes feel wet.
"Don't cry."
"These are happy tears."
"That's still no reason to cry."
I sigh. He laughs and opens the basket. "Here," he says shoving a small box into my hands. I've never seen this before.
"Open it"
I do as he says and the most stunning, golden necklace I've ever seen is sitting neatly in the center. He pulls it out and I hold up my hair. He pulls it around my neck, and closes the clasp. I smile, it's beautiful. I look at the pendent. It's a golden heart with decorative red spirals around it. I can't help but, look at it in awe.
"Do you like it?" he asks.
"Of course, I do." That's when he leans in and kisses me, soft and warm. I feel overwhelmed. I break away and laugh, just as I see a laughing Kousuke.
"Get a room," he yells, winking at me.
~FIN~
That's it. Yay. Have a Happy Thanksgiving everybody! Live. Laugh. Love. And don't forget to eat lots of Turkey. Gobble, Gobble.
