Disclaimer: Sadly for me, not for you, I do not own Alex Rider.
Just a short little drabble relating Alex Rider to the element Mercury (Hg)
Can you try to explain my reasonings for the uh, properties I put in this little thing. Post in a review! I would love to hear your interpretations!
Qualities of Quicksilver
I am Quicksilver.
Don't touch me for I will stain you
With the metallic taste of blood.
Toxic to whomever I encounter;
My secrets, should they leak, would be disastrous.
I am heavy, the weight of the world a burden.
My soft looks draw you in,
Yet I am reflective;
You look and somehow never truly see me.
I am Mercury.
I don't mix well with the acidities of the rapscallion.
I am flexible, liquid, and adapt seamlessly into a weapon
Or a beacon.
A light in the darkness.
A savior.
Yes—I am considered a light in the darkness.
To all appearances, I fluoresce in the suppressing black.
Alone.
Untouchable.
Perhaps it is for the best,
For I can be explosive.
I must be handled with care.
In the right conditions I am a ticking time-bomb.
Waiting for a weak link in the chains that bind me to snap.
Or a lead-footed press of the detonator— fast and hard,
Perhaps a sweet brush with a familiar hand and a sad smile
Before I feel a sharp pain
And I look down to find a knife is twisted into my heart.
I live in and amongst Betrayal.
I am fragile.
Little bits of my soul break and bead like pearlescent tears
Forever rolling out of reach.
Even broken I am swift.
If only I could reach.
Maybe I could mold myself together again.
I am corrosive.
I eat away underhandedly at the mortar that binds and I wreak havoc.*
I am unique.
There is no freezing under duress,
Though with a low-boiling point, I am bitterly angry.
I am dangerous—every guise I take—so be warned.
I don't know exactly who I am for I go by many names.
Hydrargyrum—"Water-silver"
Mercury.
Quicksilver.
*I thought this was cool. According to Wikipedia, "It was allegedly used by allied spies to sabotage Luftwaffe planes: a mercury paste was applied to bare aluminium, causing the metal to rapidly corrode; this would cause structural failures". Yes. I know. Wikipedia is so definitately the most reliable source.
Anyways, I looked at my previous stories' ANs and wow are they long, so I am trying to tone it down a little.
Please let me hear your interpretations. I might even post another explanatory (my reasons for each bit) chapter later on if it is requested.
