'Broken,' the toddler held up the toy to his mother.
'Yes, sweetheart,' she cradled the child to her breast. Tears in her eyes, sitting in the charred ruins of her family home, the woman took the toy from the outstretched hand. 'It's broken.'
'Fix,' he asked with hope in his eyes.
'If only it were that easy,' she felt like sobbing. Fire raged in the rest of the village wiped out by Zarkon.
'Can I help you ma'am,' Commander Keith Kogane approached the woman.
'If only it were that easy,' she handed the broken Red Lion to the pilot.
Taking the toddler from his mother arms, Keith hugged him tight. Walking over to an area clear of debris, he pointed to the horizon. On a hill side, the Red Lion lay, waiting for Lance to complete his sweep of the village.
'Not broken,' Keith told the boy. 'Next time return, I promise to bring you another toy.'
'Fix,' the toddler looked up hopefully.
'Yes,' Keith promised, taking the toy and returning the child to his mother, 'I'll bring it back fixed.'
