Disclaimer: Batman Beyond doesn't belong to me. It belongs to the WB
Network.
AN: This has been running in my head for awhile. This is my idea of why Bruce stopped being Batman. Well what was going through his mind. Takes place during rebirth part 1.
He slowly approached the warehouse where the kidnapped heiress was being held, it was time to shift into his life as Batman. He could forget that he was Bruce Wayne. Forget that Derek Powers was trying to steal his company, forget that his doctor told him he had a heart condition. It was time to spring into action.
The criminals never knew what hit them and after dispatching them went to untie the girl, "you'll be ok."
Her eyes went wide and he felt something hit him and he fell to the ground a haze of pain overtaking him, he could see someone raising a weapon to hit him. Batman quickly grabbed a gun that been dropped.
He stood bubbling with rage, oh how easy he could use this and dispose of them. At the least moment a memory of his beloved parents came to him, parents killed by a gun. He dropped it and got rid of them by hand.
He released the girl just as the police came, "you'll be ok."
He quickly left heading for home, it was a lonely place since Alfred had died six years before. He removed his costume and went into the Bat cave looking around at his life.
Could he give up being Batman? No he would never do that.
The next day Bruce went to his doctor, "a mild cardiac event you were lucky, you have to stop putting so much stress on yourself."
"I will." Bruce replied.
As he drove home an idea came to him at that night he built a steel suit, a robot like creature on the outside, no one would never know it was him. Night soon came on the city ad he got into the suit.
Bruce had never felt more invincible, why hadn't he thought of this years ago? Soon he came on a bank robbery in progress. He grabbed one of the men, "sorry it's closed."
"Whoa you're worse than Batman!"
"I am Batman!" the rage came flooding back and he wanted to just rip the criminal in two, he had been feeling that way for years but always kept it deep down. Just then he had his police scanner.
He tied both criminals up, let the police deal with them.
Bruce hid in the shadows; he couldn't protect his beloved city not anymore. His physical body was turning against him; the rage was threatening to consume him.
Bruce entered the Bat cave with a heavy heart and put the suit in a case and walked up the stairs, "never again."
As he shut off the light he could swear he could feel the same coldness and emptiness come into his body, his mind, and his heart.
ONE YEAR LATER
"The business world was stunned as Bruce Wayne and Derek Powers buried the hatchet and announced they were joining forces. A new company is being constructed which will be called Wayne-Powers. The Stock Market is at an all time high."
Bruce shut off the television, he had grown tired of the fight and Derek had agreed to his terms. Exhausted he headed upstairs for bed but something outside caught his attention.
The Bat Signal.
He had pleaded with Commissioner Gordon to stop it, but he refused to believe Batman was gone. Bruce turned on the television again.
"In other news crime has gone up sixty percent, the questions everyone is asking is where is Batman? Why did he leave?"
Bruce turned it off again and sat on the bed and bowed his head.
"His body gave him no choice."
THE END
