Star Trek Phase II: To Serve All My Days (Alternate Ending)

Hello! I am the author! What you are about to read, is a fan fiction, that is about a fan film, that is based on Star Trek. If you have never seen Star Trek: Phase II, I highly recommend it. You can find it at " "

Anyway, I'll give you the basic plot of the episode. A radiation blast causes the dormant aging virus from "The Deadly Years" to finally affect Chekov, with no cure. The original episode ends with Chekov passing away from old age, at the request of Walter Koening, who wanted closure for his character, and why not? Shatner and Nimoy got it, why not him? They edited it, by putting a scene at the end that made it seem that the entire episode was a dream. I didn't like that, because other than that last scene, it was a fantastic episode, so I decided to rewrite it a bit. Enjoy...

James T. Kirk sat at the bedside of his rapidly aging helmsman, and frowned. He put Chekov's hand into his own.

"Pavel, I am so sorry that we can't save you." Kirk said.

"Keptin, don't be sad. I lived my life to the fullest, or at least as full as I could. Who would have thought I'd live so long in such a short time?" Chekov asked before closing his eyes.

A bosun whistle sounded and Kirk grabbed his communicator. He flipped it open and stood up.

"This is Kirk, what's wrong?" Kirk asked.

"Captain, I believe I may have figured out what happened to Ensign Chekov." Spock said.

"Well, what is it, Spock?" Kirk asked, turning to Chekov, seeing him breathing slowly.

"The adrenal cure didn't work, however, I have been attempting to figure it out, and it's quite simple." Spock said. "The cure wasn't working, was because it was the wrong cure."

"Wrong cure, Spock?" Kirk asked, confused.

"Doctor McCoy tried to use the one that worked on us, who had the original disease, but I have worked out an advanced version that might just save Ensign Chekov." Spock said.

"Well, then, get Doctor McCoy down here to administer it. I'm not losing a member of my crew if he can be saved." Kirk said.

"I already dispatched him. He should arrive momentarily." Spock said, as he said it, the door chime rang.

"Come!" Kirk shouted. "Thank you, Spock. Kirk out."

"Captain, that green blooded hobgoblin is a genius. If this works, he deserves an award." Doctor McCoy said walking up to Chekov's bedside.

"Doctor, is it time?" Chekov asked.

"No it isn't. You have an entire life ahead of you." Doctor McCoy said injecting a hypospray into Chekov's arm.

"Bones, what if it doesn't work?" Kirk asked.

"Then, we lose the best navigator this ship has ever seen." Doctor McCoy said. "But either way, he needs his rest. Let's get out of here."

"Good idea, Bones." Kirk said.

Captain Kirk sat on the bridge, as Spock sat at his science station. He stood up and walked over to the captain's chair.

"Captain, you seem troubled." Spock said.

"I don't know if the cure worked. Chekov hasn't called Bones or anyone to report if it worked." Kirk said.

As Kirk said that, the turbolift doors opened, and Pavel Chekov, walked onto the bridge, and he was his natural age.

"Keptin, permission to return to duty?" Chekov asked.

"It would be my honor, Pavel." Kirk said.

"Thank you, sir. It is my honor to pilot this wessel." Chekov said.

"Well then Ensign, take us out of spacedock, and get us on our way to the rendezvous point." Kirk said.

"Aye, Keptin." Chekov said smiling as he took his rightful place at the helm.
