You've Ruined Me

Teddy Lupin, head boy and seventh year Gryffindor collapsed into a comfy armchair by the fire in the Gryffindor common room. Teddy had just returned from a late patrol of the castle and the only person other than himself was his best friend Victoire Weasley.

"You know Vic; I have a complaint against you." Teddy started. Victoire raised and elegant eyebrow as she looked up from her charms textbook.

"From who?" She asked. Teddy sighed, before replying.

"From me actually." Teddy smirked slightly as her eyes narrowed and lips thinned.

"Oh yes, now Teddy dearest what exactly have I done?" Teddy felt a slight bundle of nerves but what he was about to say but pressed on anyway.

"Well you see, you've ruined me."

"How so?" She interrupted, a Weasley temper tantrum was never far away but Teddy had grown up with her, until Hogwarts from the moment she was born they never spent more than two or three weeks apart so he wasn't overly bothered by her aggressive tones.

"Well you've ruined me for other women. I have a problem; any time I meet a nice girl I always end up comparing her to you. You're always funnier, smarter, wittier and I always end up wishing I was spending my time with my best friend instead." Teddy replied.

"Well I'm also far more beautiful than those desperate skanks who try and get your attention."

"Indeed, but we both know that, it's so obvious I didn't feel the need to mention it."

"Well I guess that it's time to confess that you have done the same for me. How is any boy meant to compare to you? Someone who knows me better than I know myself, someone who knows how much I hate attention and want to be known for something other than my looks or my family. The person who I curl up with in the corner and whisper my hopes and dreams. How can they compare to someone who can be whatever I deem the pinnacle of handsomeness? Face it Teddy we ruined each other."

"Do you remember when you were nine and I was eleven, what you said on Platform nine and three quarters?" Teddy asked.

"Teddy my mum to this day won't let me live it down. I was nearly in tears at the idea of you leaving so I grabbed you and said: 'Teddy Lupin, you're mine and so you won't forget me' then I kissed you. Mum says I was staking my claim young and making sure nobody else could get your first kiss. Now what's brought all this on?"

"You're my best friend. I know you hate attention so this is the way I chose to tell you that after knowing you for sixteen years I've finally realised that I'm in love with you."

Teddy watched Victoire hoping that he hadn't destroyed the friendship he relied on most. If Victoire hated him now, he wasn't sure how he would make it through his NEWTs in a couple of weeks nor could he face a Weasley-Potter family gathering if this went south.

"Oh. Well like I said, you've ruined me for other men, you're the only one that I want to spend time with and I hate not having you around. I don't really know if that's love but it's a good start now come here and kiss me Mr Lupin.

They kept it quiet at first. Being so close and sharing family if it didn't work out then it could lead to a big divide. For over a year they were able to sneak around until September first on Victoire's last year when James Potter spotted them kissing. Fleur apparently had known ever since they got off the train after Teddy's seventh year but respected them enough not to say anything. It was strange that it was so easy for them when their friends were moaning about love and the like but Teddy and Victoire had it easy. They were best friends before everything else, closer than any two people could ever be, some people thought it was unhealthy and that they needed confidantes, other friends to vent to but it seemed that a lifetime of being best friends translated to a very successful relationship.
