"I think it would be best if we spent a bit of time apart, Lavi."
The redhead stared at the older man blankly, waiting for the punchline. When the other merely returned his look, he swallowed. "You mean this week, Tyki? You know I don't care if you're busy, you can always send a message-"
The man sighed quietly, his face as serious as the boy had ever seen it. "Not just the week. I don't want to be overly harsh, but I'd rather not see you again until I do call for you." Seeing the Exorcist's cheeks redden, he cleared his throat. "I won't mince words, then.. You're becoming a bother."
Biting back an unkind retort, Lavi pushed back his chair, hands tightened into shaking fists as he stood. "Well, fuck you then, and fuck your minced words. Don't worry about seeing me anymore, because you sure as hell won't, Noah." He snatched his jacket from the back of the chair, jerking it on with brisque movements. Pausing to finish the last of his too-bitter wine, he laughed. "See you around, Tyki.. Watch yourself though, Nyoibo never really did like you, and I'd just hate it if you ended up with my Innocence crammed up your rickety old ass."
He departed quickly, the loud slamming of the door making the brunette wince although he'd fully been expecting the sound.
Sighing, the older man refilled his wineglass, taking a slow drink. Hearing a soft rush of air just behind him, he tensed, relaxing at the familiar pressure of an arm around his shoulders.
"Are we going to play tonight, Ty~ki..? You said you'd have company.."
Draining the remainder of his glass, he forced a smile for the not-child. "My apologies, but I'm afraid that won't be possible now.. He decided that his interests were better served with someone else after all."
She frowned suspiciously, but nodded. "Well, he was a stupid one anyway. I'm going back to finish my homework, then."
The quiet click of her doorway brought a sense of relief, and he reached for the near-empty bottle. Pouring the last into his glass, he tipped it slightly towards the now-vacant chair opposite. "To you, my Exorcist.. It really was for the best."
