Okay, this is the story of my Shepard's pre Mass Effect history. I hope it's good, or at least okay. I'm writing this at 6 in the morning. Thank you.

The ICT program, the most grueling and difficult military training in the galaxy, is what all human military personnel thought to be an honor. To be branded with a 'N' on their uniform was a dream. Few marines ever received the opportunity, and even less get far enough to reach the N1 title. It was rare for a solider to achieve N7, the highest grade one could achieve, and it was even rarer for there to be two at the same time.

Lieutenant Rem Shepard stood side by side with her childhood friend, and rival, Captain Floyd Lawton. Both Alliance soldiers were sporting brand new N7 grade armor. The two stood in front of Admiral Hackett, who was wrapping up a congratulatory speech. "And with these badges." The Admiral said handing them each an N7 emblem. "You are officially N7."

They each took an emblem, snapped into a salute, and both said. "Thank you sir." The Admiral returned their salute as a sign of respect then, without anymore to say, took his leave. And with out a word to each other, the two new N7 soldiers left the ICT complex.

The very set the gates to the complex closed, Shepard dropped into a much lazier posture, sighed heavily, and said. "Finally, that was exhausting."

"Agreed." Lawton said. "That speech was worse then the N7 trials."

Shepard laugh in agreement. They were heading to the spaceport to catch a ride off planet. "I don't know about you Floyd, but I could use a vacation."

"We just got our N7 titles, and you already want to go on leave?" Lawton questioned while scratching his head through his short brown hair. "That sounds great, where did you have in mind?"

"I heard Elysium's nice this time of year." Shepard said after a minute of thinking.

"Ah yes, the planet where every Alliance soldier goes on leave. Very original." Lawton mocked sarcastically as they climbed into a shuttle.

"Oh, I'd like to see you come up with a better place." She said in false anger.

"Why not Omega." He suggested.

"We're supposed to go on vacation, not a hive of alien criminals." Shepard said taking a seat.

Lawton sat opposite of her. "We have guns."

She half smiled. "I don't plan on shooting anyone during leave."

Lawton shrugged. "Hey, you never know." And the two shared a laugh as their shuttle took off.
