For the One a Week Competition Week 3 (Word Count 291)
"I'm looking for someone to play cards with," Rose said to Albus and Scorpius in the Great Hall. "As Albus can tell you, we Weasleys get very intense at Wizard Rat Slap."
"I've played that before!" said Scorpius.
"I'm up for a challenge if you two are," said Rose.
Rose dealt out the cards to herself, Albus, and Scorpius.
Rose went first and put down a 2. Then Albus put down a 7. Then Scorpius put down a 6. Then Rose put down a 2. Scorpius pointed his wand at the pile.
"Um what was that?" asked Rose. Albus looked confused.
"Top-bottom. There was a two on the bottom and then Rose just put down a two."
"That's not a thing," said Rose.
"Yes it is!" said Scorpius. "I always play this way."
"Burn 2 cards, Scorpius," instructed Rose.
"Fine."
They kept playing. Rose was winning and Albus was pretty close. It's true that the Weasleys get very intense!
Rose put down a queen and then Albus put down a king. Scorpius again pointed his wand at the pile.
"Burn," said Rose.
"What? It's a marriage when a king and queen are put down together. It's a thing."
"No it isn't," said Rose. "I don't know what weird Pureblood rules you play by, but that's not how we do it."
"Okay, fine, I'll burn my cards." Scorpius put two cards on the bottom of the pile.
The game went on a while until Rose won.
"Good job, Rose," said Scorpius.
"Thanks. Maybe one day you can get as good as me," she said, and left.
"Well that was interesting," said Albus.
"Yeah, lets do this again sometime!" said Scorpius.
