Disclaimer: The concept of Harry Potter, the characters, the plot, and all the ideas belong to J.K Rowling. I'm just fiddling with them.
I was inspired to write t this after seeing the new Harry Potter movie, which I loved by the way. I particularly adored how it focused a bit more on Harry and Hermione's friendship, and this idea is exploring that concept a bit more. Hope you like.
"Friendship is a single soul dwelling in two bodies." ~Aristotle
Single Soul
Harry notices that they touch more once Ron leaves. At times, she grabs his hand, or brushes his hair back from his forehead. Hermione's eyes are bloodshot for weeks and he knows she just needs someone. Soon, he begins to initiate the contact, even though he never likes touching people, honestly. Harry never goes to people for comfort. He believes comfort comes from inside since this was the only thing that kept him going with the long nights of being locked in and starving throughout his childhood. But she needs it so desperately, Harry has to. And on a deeper level, he just needs to feel that there was someone else with him.
When they lounge outside the tent together, she sits between his knees and leans her head against his chest. And Harry puts his arms around her and holds her tight. They are all each other have now. At night, they can't sleep alone. Several times, Harry wakes up with Hermione cuddled in his bunk bed. Through these weeks when they travel the country listlessly, they only talk when they have to. But there are barely any times when at least one part of them isn't brushing each other. After Godric's Hollow, she tries to make him laugh, with little charms and dumb jokes. They hug each other for ages at a time, arms bound fast, not wanting to let go and face reality. Once Ron gets back, they barely touch, at least when Ron is watching and that it is often. Harry finds he misses her. Ron will always be his best friend, but Hermione is like his flesh and blood.
Hearing her screams at Malfoy Manor is truly the worst thing Harry has ever endured. Ron screams and yells and fights, but Harry just stands there, feeling numb and broken. It is the most horrible, brutal thing he knows someone has suffered because of him. His parents died for him, his godfather was murdered because of him, and the one man who had always watched out for him is gone, but seeing Hermione shaking for so long afterward makes his blood burn. After the ordeal, she clings to Ron. However, when the moon is high in the sky and he is standing on the edge of the cliff, she comes, silent as a ghost. He can see the whiteness of her face and the tears tracks glistening down her cheeks. And without thinking, Harry pulls her close to him. He fees her sink into him. They stay this way long after his fingers seem like they will never regain feeling. And when she move away and smiles a shaky smile, Harry swears that Voldermort will pay. Because no one tortures his sister without dearly regretting it.
Reviews are better than gold and diamonds and all that rest of the valuable stuff. They are love. Please give me a little love, even if it is only a tiny, tiny, tiny amount.
