Amor Fati

Ch.1

What you mean to me

"No, this won't do," Sedusa said, quietly. "you know the gangreen gang," she smirked. "why else wouldn't they want to curb stomp a single father to near death?" her question was rhetorical.

"Leave me alone," Prof. Utonium said, his breathing heavy.

"You're hurt," Sedusa said, giving a clipped response. She stared at the Professor with an impassive expression. "I'm all for holding a grudge," she admitted, closing her eyes. "I honestly would have dated you if you never created those brats but I just can't let those monsters have the satisfaction knowing you may die from those wounds."

"I doubt that," Prof. Utonium said, swallowing a pained gasp.

"From personal experience I would like to remind the good Professor that children need a well-adjusted father figure," Sedusa said, with a small sigh. "I guess what I'm really trying to say is I'd rather let you live until someone who's caliber more suits your intelligence decides to murder you instead. I couldn't stand the thought knowing the criminal underworld would love to hang your obituary on their wall."

Prof. Utonium rose unsteadily to his feet, his legs were shaking. He could feel anger bubbling inside of his chest. It was a hard decision to maintain, he chose not to act upon his emotions. Assessing this unprecedented encounter with Sedusa he was better off remaining civil.

"All because I'm bleeding?" Prof. Utonium said, beneath his breathe. "you feel...something?" he questioned. "you would find it inside your own conscience that somehow you are capable of performing an act of kindness?"

"I wouldn't go saying something like that," Sedusa said, she sounded disinterested. "your vulnerable now and if someone else besides me decides your better off dead then I'd say it was a waste of my trouble trying to help you."

"You aren't making this any easier," Prof. Utonium growled through clenched teeth.

"It's an offer your better off taking," Sedusa told him. "lucky for you I parked close," she laughed a dry humorless chuckle. 'l'll breeze past the police if it means stitching up those stab wounds."

Utonium was nearly right.

Sedusa did feel something.

Maybe it was the flicker of their past history that drew her close to him when she saw Utonium again. When Sedusa promised herself years ago she closed herself away from forming an actual relationship.

Utonium's kind and protective nature set him apart from other men she was used to meeting.

Somehow he had earned her pity.

Sedusa would perform this act of compassion.

Out of her own self-interest of course.
