Sonfic from the point of view of Rogue
Masters of War – Bob Dylan
Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks
The Professor always said that he wanted peace. That he wanted humans and mutants to live as equals. To do this he created weapons. He used us as weapons. He didn't fight. He couldn't. He was in a wheelchair, so if he did try he'd probably endanger us more. So he hid, while we fought. While we faced all that hate. All that fear.
You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly
I don't have my own life now. I can't do anything that'll 'endanger the team'. I can't do anything that might mark me as a mutant. I have to do all the social things, 'to prove that we're normal'. I'm not in control. I have to fight, 'so we can live in peace'. He never fights. He can't help me control my powers. I can't touch anyone, and he can't help me. He tries to stop them. He tries to keep my curse so it won't endanger him. But it doesn't help me.
Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain
He tells everyone that humans and mutants will live in harmony. He doesn't have to fight to see this happen. He convinces some that he's helping us. People like Scott and Jean. They don't see that he's using us to try create his impossible dream. I do. I know what he's doing.
You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud
He creates all the plans. He sends us out to risk our lives, while he stays in his nice mansion. He sees what's happening through us. He goes into our minds. He tells us what to do. The humans are afraid that he'll use his telepathic abilities on them, because they're human. I don't know if he's using it on us, so we'll fight for him. Nobody would care if he was. Nobody care's if anything happens to us. We're only mutants. Nobody care's if we die fighting for the right to be free.
You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins
My power wouldn't let me have children, but even if I could, I wouldn't want to. I don't have the same reason as most mutants do. They 'don't want they're children born into a world of hatred'. I don't want my children being sent to fight for him. He doesn't hesitate to use children. We're still children! His dream isn't worth it. He isn't worth it.
And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead
We risk our lives for him. We're always in so much more danger then him. They'd protect him, all the X-Men. They'd die for him. I wouldn't. I want him to die. I want to know that I won't have to risk my life for his impossible dream. When he does die, I'll be free.
