MELLO x NEAR
Near was sitting alone as usual. Doing the complex blank puzzle he worked on nearly constantly. I sat on a couch just across from the place in which Near was. I couldn't help but stare. I found myself doing this often now, though I never could tell what was so alluring about this pale boy.
"Hi Near" I said, trying to catch his attention. Near said nothing, but looked at me with deep gray eyes.
"…" He blinked once then began his puzzle once more. I frowned, Near never talked to me. It was almost frustrating. "Good afternoon" He said quietly. I blushed slightly then smiled at the boy sitting across from me.
We both had been admitted to Wammy's at nearly the same time. We were close in age, both of us being about 11, give or take a several months. Near had always fascinated me. He was so pale and perfect. He wore plain white pajama's that matched his snowy hair. He was silent most of the time, only talking to teachers and an occasional student and desired his personal space. I doubted anyone had ever gotten close to him. But for some reason I wanted to. To find out about Near. Be friends, or mabey even more.
"uhm…" I said nervously. This was as far as I got on nearly every conversation between Near and me. He would greet me, then I would have no clue how to continue. "So…uh… how's- how are you doing?" I asked stupidly. He glanced at me briefly, then looked back at his work.
"I am doing well" He paused "How is Mello?" I stared at the floor.
"I'm fine." I said nervously, my face slightly red. He gazed at me unemotionally. I glanced up and met his gaze then shut my eyes. What is wrong with me?! I shook my head quickly. "So, um-"
"Why is Mello acting so strangely?" Near interrupted, with the same agonizingly calm voice that both angered and pleased me. I scooted out of my chair onto the floor, now I was sitting with my legs crossed, eye to eye with the bizarre boy I could not help but liked.
"What would you say if I said I have certain…uh…'feelings' for you, Near?" I asked carefully, choosing my words to make sure it didn't sound quite as unusual as it really was. He shot me another unreadable glance.
"I am not certain…I would potentially be flattered, but at the same time possibly confused." My eyes widened slightly. Was he saying he felt similarly?
"Near, do you mean you l…like me?" I muttered quietly, so no one could hear. He looked back at the puzzle, he lowered his head, covering most of his face with soft white bangs.
"I suppose I do" He said flatly. I was looking over him as I caught a glimpse of what he was hiding under his hair. His face had a delicate pink color to it. His gray eyes were narrowed and shy looking.
The emotionless boy had been proved vulnerable.
