"No matter where I am, no matter where I go, she will always be there with me. The elephant in the room. The thing that noone ever talks about - no one ever dreams of talking about - but the thing that everyone knows about, because afterall, everyone has a mother. Even time lords. Even The Doctor."
CHAPTER 1
The Doctor was underneath the TARDIS control, the TARDIS having yet another malfunction. The Doctor was hitting the control with a screwdriver, tugging bits off of the controller before dismissing them and chucking them aside, and grunting quite a lot. As always, Clara found the whole situation hilarious.
"Do you actually know what you're doing Doctor, or do you just... guess?" Clara asked, laughing.
"Of course I know what I'm doing. I am a Doctor. I am The Doctor! This has been my spaceship for hundreds of years, I think I am fairly capable of fixing a small technical issue on my own spaceship!" The Doctor retorted, angry to be mocked by Clara.
"Doctor, we've been in here for hours. Can't you just call a space mechanic or something?" Clara asked.
"A space mechanic? A space mechanic!? Like I said, I am The Doctor, I know how to fix my own ship!" The Doctor shouted.
"Okay then, don't call a space mechanic. But at least let me help!" Clara said.
"Your human, you won't understand." The Doctor said.
"Oh, won't I? Go on then, Doctor, try me. What's wrong?" Clara said, a little bit of annoyance in her voice.
"It won't start." The Doctor said simply.
Clara let out a giggle. "It won't start, eh?"
Clara walked over to some cables that were lying on the floor and grabbed them - one in each hand. She forced them together, causing a blue spark to fire out of them. Suddenly, the TARDIS' lights flickered back on, and business resumed as normal in the TARDIS.
The Doctor looked at Clara in amazement, and with slight embarrassment. "How did you do that?"
"Like you said, I'm human." Clara laughed, leading the way back into the main control room. The Doctor followed, mocking Clara from behind. Clara turned around and caught The Doctor mocking her. The stare that Clara gave The Doctor was long, and icy. A worried look crept upon The Doctor's face, as if to say 'please, don't slap me.'
"So, where to now?" The Doctor asked Clara.
"I think you know." Clara said. "Like you said, Gallifrey's still out there. Frozen in a moment in time, but not destroyed like you thought. So, let's got there, let's go find Gallifrey!" Clara grinned at The Doctor.
