Loki sat in his cell, leaning up against the wall. He had lost track of the number of days he had been in there. Yesterday, he had been told his mother was killed. He was still in mourning and had been furious when they had not allowed him to go to her funeral.

Hearing footsteps, he looked up. He saw a shadow walk in to the prison and walk up to his cell. When they got closer, he recognized them from the light from the cell.

"Lady Sif." He said. "What brings you down to this wretched place?"

"I wanted to talk to you." She answered, letting herself into his cell.

"Really? Why?" He asked.

"I wanted to make sure you found out; Your mother is-"

"Dead, yes I know." He snapped.

"Are you all right?" She asked, concern in her voice. Loki never knew she had that emotion.

"If I was out of this cell, the murderer would be dead already." Loki growled.

"I'm sorry for your loss." Sif said quietly. "She was like a mother to me too."

"Was it beautiful?" He asked.

"What?"

"Her funeral?" He asked.

"Yes it was." Sif said with a sad smile.

"I wish I had been allowed to go." Loki said sadly. Sif didn't know if it was the lighting of the cell playing tricks on her eyes, but she thought she saw tears well up in his eyes. She crouched down next to him.

"They didn't let you?" She asked him. She had never seen him this sad.

"No." He choked out. So she had seen him get teary.

"I'm sorry." She said.

There was a long pause of silence only broken every so often by a ragged breath from Loki.

"It was Malaketh. The dark elf and his monster that started the prison riot killed her.

"I told him the way up the stairs." Loki sniffled. Sif felt awkward.

"You didn't mean to cause harm." Sif said.

"I was hoping he would let me out. He let all the others out." Loki admitted, a tear streaked down his cheek.

There was another pause in the conversation. Sif stared at where the tear had ran down his face. She had never in all her life on Asgard, seen Loki cry. He would get angry and moody from time to time, but never show weakness by crying. Which meant he trusted her.

"Do you want me to stay a bit longer?" She asked.

He sat there a moment, silently crying. Then he nodded, not wanting his voice to fail him if he tried to speak.

"OK." She said with a sad smile.

Then, quickly surprising her, he grabbed her in a hug, practically stuffing his face in her shoulder. His muffled sobs wracked his body.

At first Sif was startled, then she put her arms around him to comfort him. She almost started crying, but restrained herself.

After a few minutes the sobs just turned into ragged breaths. And, though it was muffled, she heard him say into her shoulder, "Thank you for coming."
