In my time zone, it was late evening of March 25, when I got the idea for this fic. I hoped I would be able to publish it on my birthday but it became too late to think (not to mention that my parents, going to sleep, turned off the modem and disconnected me from the Internet). Thus, I publish my birthday story now, in the comfort of my dorm room, after a lecture.
Enjoy!

"Look at this one!" Madelyn took a short, white dress with emerald green, diagonal stripes from a hanger. "It's marvelous!"
"Then what are you waiting for? Try it" Velma told her.
Madelyn ran toward the dressing room as fast as a rocket.
"How do I look like?" she asked after a moment, stepping out to her sister's view. The dress reached only to her knees and hugged her slender figure perfectly.
"I think you look gorgeous" Velma said with appreciation. "If only you like it..."
"Like it?" Madelyn squealed in delight. "I haven't seen anything more beautiful since Daphne had showed us her wedding dress!"
"Calm down" her elder sister giggled. "We'll take it."
Madelyn hugged her tightly and rushed to change. A few minutes later, the dress was already hers.
"I can't believe that even mom and dad forgot about my birthday" she said, upset, as she and Velma left the shop. "It's not like I was born on Halloween, like Marcy, or at Christmas, or any other major holiday."
"Dad has always been forgetful" Velma put her arm around her sister. "He even missed his own wedding anniversary one year, remember? Mom was angry at him for a week."
"Okay. He actually could have forgotten. But mom?"
"She just might have been very busy. You know there's always lots of work in a hospital. Don't worry anymore. They'll make it up to you."
"You think so?"
"I'm sure" Velma opened the car, sat behind the wheel and started the engine. "If they don't, my name isn't Velma Dinkley."
Ten minutes later, the girls stepped on the porch of their parents' house, where Madelyn came for every summer.
"Velma?" Madelyn spoke out, opening the door.
"Yes?"
"Thanks for taking me shopping. Especially since you hate it when Daphne drags you to a store."
"That's another thing. Daphne and I simply have totally different tastes. This is why we never can get along on the clothes" Velma replied, discreetly leading her sister to the living room.
The moment when Madelyn crossed the room's threshold, she saw her parents, Fred, Daphne, Scooby, Shaggy and his sister, Maggie, as well as some of her high school friends, standing around a tall cake in chocolate, decorated with multicolored marzipan roses. Colorful streamers and balloons with the number 20 were hanging from the ceiling.
"Surprise, honey. Happy birthday" Mr. and Mrs. Dinkley said, hugging their younger daughter.
"I thought you'd forgotten" Madelyn stammered in shock.
Everybody laughed.
"You were supposed to think so" Daphne explained. "We were preparing this party for three weeks."
"It's Velma who had planned all of this" Fred added.
Madelyn glanced at her sister and threw herself on her neck.
"If it wasn't the most wonderful birthday in my life, I probably would kill you for such jokes" she said in a barely audible whisper.
"You're welcome, Maddie" Velma laughed.
PS. It would be nice if at least a few people left reviews. Regards, VM.
