Jack had taken him out flying. It was crisp and cold out, so Jamie had wrapped himself in his largest coat. It was new years day, and there was a miraculous display of fireworks from all around. They glided through the air, Jack holding onto the tips of Jamie's fingers on each hand, the boy below him.

There was a loud crack of a firework behind them, and Jamie shifted his head a little too quickly for Jack to keep a good grip on him. As if in slow motion, he slipped from Jack's fingers, making a tumble for the ground. Jack made a swift dive for the ground as he heard Jamie let out a blood curdling scream. He tried to go as fast as he could, but the wind seemed to betray him. Jamie was too far away for Jack to even touch him, and he was nearing the ground more with each second.

...

...

Thud. Jack tried to tear his eyes away from the sight of the body hitting the ground, seeming to go limp within seconds. He reaches the ground, kneeling before Jamie. He was still breathing, raggedly. Jamie's eyes fluttered open, half lidden.

"Jamie. Oh god, Jamie. I-I..." Jack's throat closed up, his eyes welling with tears.

Jamie didn't look at him, only up at the sky, at the moon. "Oh, Jack. Don't cry. The moon does not want you to cry." Jamie grins, his eyes closing, and his last breath escaping him.

Jack stared down at the lifeless body beneath him. The moon? If he was speaking of the moon like that now... No. It couldn't be. But...

Jack was interrupted in his thoughts by a blinding golden light. It faded quickly, but it still took Jack a moment to refocus.

He looked down to find a very alive Jamie, although, he wasn't quite Jamie anymore. The figure was breathing peacefully, his eyelids fluttering as if he was dreaming.

Jack observed two beautiful wings, that looked like they were made of water and ice, seeming to have rivers flow within them. There was a shaggy patch of sky blue hair atop the boy's head, surrounded by a crown of beads. When Jack reached out to touch the crown, his fingers moistened. Even the boy's clothing seemed to change. A green tunic and a pair of shorts covered him, and they both seemed to be made of leaves of all shades of green. Jack noticed that Jamie's skin was cool to the touch, but not quite as freezing as Jack's own.

Jamie rustled, his eyes slowly opening. They were a beautiful blue-green, and the first thing the eyes focused on was Jack's face.

"Hello, Jack." He whispered. "The moon tells me I am Murigen Fay."
