AN: Oooookay, this was just something that got into my head and wouldn't leave me alone until I wrote it down. I hope you like it! Please R&R!! ONE NIGHT Chapter 1

One night.

That was all it took.

One night, she'd finally let her guard down, and then things had gone terribly wrong. Afraid that what they'd done would ruin their friendship, she'd panicked and said some things she hadn't really meant. In the end, she had ruined everything.

And now, the consequences of that night stared her straight in the face.

She was pregnant.

Sydney packed up all her things, put most of it in storage, and drove to Ranger Headquarters one last time. She stood outside the door labeled "Company B" for a full five minutes before entering. She heaved a sign of relief when she saw that her partner was not at his desk, and neither were Walker or Trivette. Setting the cardboard box she had clutched under her left arm on her desk, she threw her few belongings into it, then marched over to Walker's desk, dropping her badge, her gun, and a handwritten letter of resignation on top of the pile of paperwork. It stated that she could no longer fulfill her duties as a Texas Ranger; however, nowhere in the note did it state her real reason for leaving; she was pregnant with Francis Gage's baby. She knew he had a right to know, but just couldn't bring herself to tell him, not after their fight.

With one final look around, she left the office for good.

Gage laughed at Trivette's antics as they and Walker entered the office. He quieted quickly, however, when he stepped into the large room. Something was wrong here. Very wrong. Where was his partner? Her desk looked different, somehow. It seemed…empty.

"What the—" He was cut off when Walker let out a deep sigh. He stood beside his desk, a shining object glinting in his palm. It was a Ranger Star. Sydney's Ranger Star. On the desk lay her gun, and beside it, a piece of paper. Walker lifted it, scanning it quickly.

"She's gone." He lifted his eyes from the page. "She's not coming back."

Letting out a growl of frustration, Gage stormed out of the room, stalking towards the gym. He began to beat the stuffing out of one of the free-swinging bags, cursing all the while. Damn her.

Walker found him there and hour later, still slamming his fists into the swaying bag with a vengeance. He placed a firm hand on one of his arms, and Gage stopped, breathing hard.

"I can't find her, Gage. I'm sorry. She's moved out of her apartment, and she didn't tell anyone where she was going. Do you have any idea why she would just leave like this?"

"Yeah." Gage explained, briefly, the circumstances surrounding their fight four long weeks ago. "I let it happen, Walker. I love her, and I lost her."

Walker just looked at him sadly—he knew the feeling exactly; he'd felt the same way when Ellen had died—not sure how to respond. "I'm sorry, Gage."
