More Than Okay

Sam tilts his head, listening over the headset as Wordy makes a rain check on dinner for tonight without even consulting with him. He wonders if he's going to talk to him about what they'll be doing instead. The team knows about them, they didn't bother to hide it and it hasn't effected how they work as a team. When they get back to the station and after they've all changed into their regular, civilian clothes, Sam closes his locker doors with a slight clang and a soft sigh. He startles when arms slide around his waist, hands dipping down to rest in the pockets of his jeans, as Wordy drops his chin to rest on Sam's shoulder. Sam smiles and leans backwards into his embrace, bracing his palms on the door. "You know if someone walks in on us they're going to make a scene."

Wordy presses a gentle kiss to the side of his neck. "I know. I just want to hold you for a minute."

Sam flushes, squirming slightly in Wordy's arms. He still isn't very good with compliments and praise, but he's getting there. He redirects the conversation to get them off this topic. "What are we doing tonight that we had to take a rain check on a barbecue with Ed?"

Wordy squeezes Sam carefully, "I thought we'd go out and fix up that old store. Is it okay that I didn't check with you first?"

Sam turns his head, so that he can caress Wordy's cheek with his lips. "I think we can do that barbecue after all."

Wordy looks at him with an arched eyebrow. "Oh?"

Sam detangles himself from Wordy's arms. "Yeah. Go. Go get started. I'll be there in a few."

He gives Wordy a gentle push, giving him an easy smile. Wordy eyeballs him for a moment and then does as he's been told. He gives Sam one last puzzled, hopeful look, praying that he'll take pity on him and explain what is going on. Sam just smiles and shakes his head, making a shooing motion with one hand while he pulls his phone out of his pocket with his other hand. Wordy has the overwhelming urge to pout, but doesn't because he's supposed to be the mature one in their relationship. Sam, though, is very good at flipping that upside down when he wants to. Wordy gives up and drives to the store.

He's been working for about 10 minutes and they've managed to make some good headway on fixing up the store. They've taken off all of boards covering the windows and removed all of the broken glass. They are just about to start putting in the new panes of glass when he hears vehicles. Lots of vehicles. He turns towards the street and watches in surprise as Jules, Greg, Spike, Leah, Ed with his family and Sam all climb out. Ed and Sophie start setting up a barbecue and Clark starts unloading tables and chairs from the back of the truck with Spike's help. Sam walks towards him and stops in front of him, hands tucked into his pockets. "This okay?"

Wordy smiles and reaches out, pulling him into his arms. So amazing and yet still so uncertain in some aspects of his life. Sam constantly surprises him with his way of showing his feelings, when he wants to prove to Wordy that he gets what he means to both Wordy and the rest of the team. He hugs him tight, breathing in his scent, pleased that Sam doesn't try to pull away as is the norm for him. Sam isn't very comfortable with PDA but at that too, he is getting better. Sam hugs him back and detangles himself after a couple of seconds. Wordy reaches out when he moves away, ruffling his hair with his hand, smiling when Sam ducks his head, "Yeah. This is more than okay."
