Prologue: Controlla
It was the year x361. From his throne in Mount Olympus, Zeus watched over the praying villagers asking him to help with the vegetation. Athens was in great danger due the current drought and anything that actually managed to grow, was inconsumable because of the tainted soil.
This angered Zeus. Here he is-the god of all gods- cannot even help his people that were slowly dying of starvation. Anger and resentment fueled him, unable to understand how the ground beneath him as well as the weather surrounding his people, dared to disobey his order for the climate to change.
No longer able to see his people suffer, Zeus left Olympus in search of the culprit responsible for this insubordination. Albeit, he had no inclination as to who or what could be behind the control of the weather, but that didn't stop Zeus. One way or another, he would discover the cause and he was willing to do whatever it took to control it.
For 2 years Zeus searched and searched but to no avail. He remained in his human form, determined not to return to Olympus until he had discovered the truth behind the phenomenon that was Weather. As he traveled, he would hear stories from locals and strangers that had different ideas as to what controlled it. Only one fact remained the same between the different myths and legends: they called her "Mother".
Zeus used every lead he had, fact or fake, he was desperate to meet this so called "Mother". Until one day, he managed to find himself secluded on a tropical island. No sign of human life anywhere, Zeus felt beside himself. Surely his many wives must be concerned about his whereabouts and he worried deeply for his people. For a moment he pondered over returning to his home and try to figure out some sort of way to bypass the weather to salvage what may be left of his Athens.
"How long do you intend to try and track me down?" An unfamiliar voice called out to him, pulling the god out of his thoughts.
To say Zeus was startled at the sudden feminine voice would be putting it lightly. He was dumbstruck! He, the god of all gods, could always sense when there was a presence nearby and yet, Zeus was sat there on a boulder staring at the wind looking for the face that the voice belonged to.
"Who goes there? Answer me!" Zeus called out when he couldn't locate the presence.
Zeus began to feel infuriated. It was a rarity for the god to feel so… so… off-guard and the very few instances where he was "caught off guard"…well… he didn't particularly enjoy not being in control.
Suddenly there was a whirring sound coming from behind where he sat and he turned just in time to see the winds whirl around in tight fast spinning motions, closing in on them-selves and suddenly disappear leaving behind a beautiful, beautiful woman. Not even Aphrodite could compare to the beauty of the woman before Zeus.
"I am Mother Nature. Why have you been following me?" The woman inquired. A look of annoyance that didn't seem fitting to her was plastered on her face.
"I-I-…" Zeus was unable to bring his scattered thoughts together as he stared at the mystical creature now in front of him.
Mystical indeed. Every ounce of beauty in the world, from forests to beaches, mountains and volcanoes; all of the colors the world had to offer were reflected in her eyes. Her skin was the color of desert sand. Her hair appeared to go on forever if not for the vines that were so elegantly yet simplistically braided through her hair to prevent it from touching the earth. Her nude body resembled that of hilltops. Curvaceous. Perfect. Extraordinary. There was nothing else like it. Her body defied all known logic.
"I am Zeus: God of Sky and Thunder. King of the gods of Mount Olympus." Zeus managed to reply in a bold voice once he was able to remember that he was supposed to be infuriated with this so-called "Weather Woman."
"So it seems," she began making slow strides toward the man, still very much naked. "And what is that you want from me?"
Being too flabbergasted by her beauty, Zeus failed to notice the silkiness of her voice. The unintentional sultriness only made her all the more alluring. It was becoming all too difficult for him to keep his thoughts straight. Not to mention, the said woman was naked.
"For starters, I would very much appreciate it, if you at least had the decency to put on some clothing. Anything really." He tried to make his comment come out as a snarl but instead it came out more as begging.
"Tsk. Men." Her eyes rolled as she began to lose patience with the man that had been following her tracks for the past 2 years.
"I apologize for being courteous, I simply-" he started.
"If you could look past my physical attributes long enough to explain why you have been tracking me down, I would greatly appreciate it." Mother Nature was becoming less and less impressed with this so-called "thunder god."
Not quite accustomed to being spoken to so boldly, Zeus was taken aback. No one dared speak to the god of gods with such spite. Not unless they wanted him to unleash his merciless wrath. And yet, he couldn't bring himself to feel any anger toward Mother Nature. There was something in her demeanor, a peaceful aura, harmony- "I know not what it could be!" He exclaimed in his head.
"Rain." He replied at last.
"Pardon?"
"My people. There has been no rain; my villagers are unable to grow crops. I went in search for you because as the god of the sky, I couldn't understand why I couldn't help my people." Looking away from the maiden seemed to make it easier to comprehend his thoughts, he noted.
"Ah…" A look of guilt and realization was beginning to cross Mother Nature's face, "Yes, I understand why you came after me then. You see, it is difficult to keep track of the world. My job- my entire existence- is to keep order and balance in the world and well, some areas can occasionally be… left out for an extended amount of time. If you could be so kind as to bring me to your home, I would love to restore the land to how it once was."
Keeping Zeus' eyes on anything that wasn't Mother Nature was extremely difficult and he didn't want to have to either. With one quick glance at her features, he found his eyes suddenly being pulled into hers and was incapable of doing anything but stare. He wasn't quite sure what she continued saying after she asked to accompany him back to Athens, all he could do was get further lost in her eyes.
Suddenly, like a cold bucket of water being poured over his head, his mind finally processed what she had said and without wasting a breath, he removed the chlamys he was wearing and handed it to her as per her request, leaving Zeus in his chiton. They then began their long journey back to Athens, side by side, getting to know the magical power of one another.
Two years had passed since Mother Nature restored balance to Athens. Two years had passed since she fell in love with the King of the gods. And now, two years since that fateful encounter, Zeus and Mother Nature welcomed their newborn daughter to the world.
Persephone Hera. July 23, x365.
When you're growing up with parents like Zeus or Mother Nature, life can be pretty… unpredictable, to say the least and the kind of company you keep can maybe be a little… unexpected. Being born to such magical parents, it was quickly discovered that Persephone harbored exceptional power. She had first shown signs of her magical abilities as early as 6 months old when she accidentally encased Hydra, one of Zeus' favorite pets, in a block of ice. As early as 1 year old, her parents deemed it necessary to begin training her in her magical abilities before they got too out of control.
You see, as Zeus was technically the god of the heavens and Persephone's mother being, in some ways, the goddess of earth, Persephone managed to inherit all forms of magic. It was rare-unheard of actually- for one to have so much magical power. There was only one other person to have ever existed with such a power. This form of magic was called Mastery Magic. Much like the name states, this form of power allowed the user to master all forms of magic whether it be controlling the elements, physical transformations, unbelievable strength, speed, even the ability to have premonitions at will. Any form of magic that existed, Persephone was already a master of it. This made her one of the most dangerous yet valuable people in the world.
Zeus was strongly aware of the dangers his daughter would face if the world knew of her abilities and if not careful, he knew of the dangers his daughter could bring to the world if she so chooses. It was for this reason Zeus put his most trusted friend and companion, Pegasus, to be the guardian of his beloved Persephone should anything happen to her or to them.
To reiterate the part about the "unexpected" company, it should be known that Pegasus was a horse.
A horse with wings.
A white horse with wings.
A white horse with wings that was larger than the size of a dragon.
He also happened to be the keeper of balance between the universes.
When Persephone's parents were unable to help her with her training, Pegasus was always there to teach her about the importance of balance, not just in the world but in herself as well. He loved her; he loved her as if she were his own child. His lessons were always cryptic proverbs and haikus and metaphors such as, "life is like a dark tunnel, you cannot always see the light at the end of it, but if you keep moving you will come to a better place." Pegasus was a firm believer that a strong mind was just as important as physical strength, and although these were concepts that any ordinary toddler wouldn't be able to comprehend, Persephone understood it completely. After all, she was anything but ordinary and she accepted that.
Pegasus loved her so much that on her 3rd birthday he presented her with a gift that no one else would have considered she needed: a companion. This friend was, again, unorthodox, and to some it technically would have been considered a pet more so than a friend but that's not how Persephone viewed any living creature. All of life's creations (thanks to her mother's and Pegasus' lessons) were considered friends, so when she saw that Pegasus had brought to her a- well no one really knew what it was at first- but Persephone still nearly drowned all of Athens in her tears of happiness!
Her new companion, now named Alepoú, was a fox, sort of. Not one from Earthland, however. This particular creature was not technically a fox, but a Fennekey from another universe that had been recently destroyed during a war. He was only a few days old when Pegasus had rescued him.
The Fennekey civilization (much like the Exceeds of Edolas) had the ability to speak and even at full grown, were hardly the size of a toddler. Alepoú had fluffy gray fur allover aside from his belly and the bottom half of his short muzzle, which was covered in white fur. He had a very happy-go-lucky personality and was far too innocent for the world. Despite the fall of his home and family, Alepoú was always smiling and full of love, which complimented Persephone's personality very well. From the moment they met, they became the best of friends.
Life was wonderful for the family. Persephone's training was hardly considered training anymore since she executed all that she set her mind to perfectly, her parents showered her in nothing but love, and it seemed that all of the people of Athens adored the toddler. She brought smiles to those who cried and she brought hope to those who had lost their way. All of the wild creatures and beasts loved her and would give her offerings of their food out of respect and would even let her play on their backs because she was just that kindhearted. Much like her mother, she could make anyone swoon.
However everything changed only a few weeks after her 5th birthday.
It was a quiet morning in the Temple of the Zeus, (since Zeus and Mother Nature remained in their human forms in order to be together and raise Persephone, they could not return to Mount Olympus) not a soul was yet awake. However, evil was brewing not far from Olympia.
It seemed as though Zeus' brother, Hades, was particularly unhappy with the former and had sent an army of creatures and demons from the Underworld to attack Olympus to slay the gods and all of the citizens along the way. Zeus, who had awoken with a fright, could sense that danger was coming and began to prepare for war.
"Pegasus! You must take Persephone and Alepoú and leave at once! I sense she is not safe here in Olympia. I am going to return to Mount Olympus and prepare for battle, I shall send for you once this is over." Zeus commanded his stallion, however the realization that he would have to part with his daughter was painted on his face in the form of pain and torture.
"Sir, what of Mother?" the steed inquired.
Looking across the room to his now-awake and nervous wife, Zeus sighed poignantly. They both new what needed to be done whether they wanted to part with their child or not, it was the only way they could save their land. Without the use of words, the couple nodded in affirmation about their plan of action.
"You must leave, Pegasus. Zeus and I must remain here and protect these people. Please keep her safe." The woman looked over her shoulder at her still sleeping child as Zeus picked her up from where she lay and placed her on Pegasus' back.
"I shall guard her with my life." He replied as he took flight leaving the brokenhearted parents behind.
A/N: Meet my OC: Persephone Hera. Persephone: Queen of the Underworld. Hera: Queen of the gods. Okay, I know this may sound a little confusing because it's all Greek and OC background so far but it will start to make sense soon enough! This story has been flying around in my head for months now so I figured it was time to share it. Please, please, please leave as much feedback as possible, I already have other chapters to this story typed out, I'm just looking for a few reviews of what you think FIRST before I post the continuation. Keep in mind this IS a prologue so it's not intended to make sense right away with the direction of the plot. Also, I'm trying to stay as accurate to the Fairy Tail plot line as possible but of course, to make sense with my story, I do have to make some changes (same for the Greek history so sorry) but I'm definitely going to make sure none of the characters are too OOC. Also, also! The character in the icon is my own attempt at sketching, it's not particularly good but I feel it's a good enough (?) impression of how I imagine Persephone to look. Thanks a bunch and hope you enjoy! –Vera x
