Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter
I originally wrote this for a challenge, but no longer doing the challenge, but kept the idea.
A young man with flaming red hair and missing ear was found standing over his twin brother's gravestone, reading a letter as tears fell from his eyes. Today was the one month anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, and George Weasley was not taking it well.
Dear Fred,
How am I to live without you? Every day it seems to get harder and harder. It will never be the same. Things have gotten slower at the shop. I just don't feel the same motivation anymore without you here. You were my other half, my twin, my best friend, my partner in crime. Now all that remains is empty tears. You were my true best friend, and now where you once stood, stands a mere gravestone in your honor and memory. Now where you stood, stands an empty twin full of pain and tears. Here where you stood, stands a broken family.
Freddie, how can I move on? How can I do what mum is begging me to do, what Harry is begging me to do. They tell me that you'd be standing here joking saying, come on George, I'd rather see you smiling, don't make me pull out a tickling nougat on you to cheer you up, but I just can't. It just gets harder and harder as the days go on. Did you know today marks one month since the battle? And yet it feels like it's been a year. Mum says things will get easier soon, but I just don't understand how. I never expected it, how could I? How can anyone expect to lose a twin? It's like losing yourself, like part of you will be gone forever. I will never forget you. I am sure one day I will move on, but you will always be in my heart. You just don't forget about someone as important as you. You will forever be honored.
I plan to have a painting made of you from an old photo, that will hang in the shop for all to see. I promise you one last thing before I say goodbye. I have chosen that if one day I have a son, I will be naming him after you, and make sure that he will live up to his uncle's reputation.
Forever yours,
George
Little did George know that there was indeed someone special watching over as George read out the letter. Although George was not able to sense him, Fred Gideon Weasley was found watching from his little spot in heaven, having trouble stopping the tears falling from his own eyes as well.
"Hey George, I know you can't hear me, but I still want to respond to your wonderful letter. Imagine my shock, waking up in heaven, being greeted by not one, not two, but three of the four Marauders. Would you believe it? Harry's father, Sirius, and Remus were the Marauders! And they asked me to replace Peter! Anyway, death sucks, but now I'm part of a legacy, Georgie. Can you believe it? I met the Marauders!
Fred sighed a large breath before continuing. "Now I know you're upset. I was very upset for the first week or so. Don't worry, it will get better. I know things are tough now, and you're still in mourning. But remember this, you're a good guy. Shit happens. But you're meant to live a long life, and I would love to see my nephew being named Fred, as long as you make sure that he's a prankster, that's a law. You break it…well I don't know what I would do since it'd be hard to get back at you, but I'm sure I'll think of something. Just kidding, see, I'm dead and I can still joke! And so can you! Lighten up, get yourself a girl, you're going to be fine, I promise. I love you, and will be saving a fifth spot for you when you die in many years from now. And just remember this: I will always be watching over you."
