A/N: This is a different interpretation of Rachel's "Listen carefully. I mean every word." Different song, too. For the sake of the story, just imagine that Rachel had written Adele's "I Found a Boy".

I Found A Boy

"I want you to listen carefully," she told him. Gazing up into his eyes she remembered how he used to make her palms itch, heart flip. "I mean every word."

She stepped out onto the stage. Alone she stood at the microphone, nerves just touching her enough to maker her fingertips burn. But then the song began and everything was stripped away as she stood there bare and open, her eyes sliding over to where he stood. He smiled reassuringly and she held his gaze for a moment. His calm smile was nice. It wouldn't stay for long.

So, you thought I would crumble to my knees

At the first sight of you, crawling back to me

To whisper 'will you leave your man?'

Cause you swore that this time you can stand by me

I won't stand by you

He stared at her from the wings, mouth dropped open. She almost felt bad about dropping this on him so suddenly. It was a definite shock. But then she saw another set of eyes watching her from the back of the auditorium.

But I found a boy who I love more

Than I ever did you before,

So stand beside the river I cried,

And let yourself down

Look how you want me now that I don't need you

She had told Finn about Jesse for the sake of friendship. She also wanted him to see that she had moved on. He could continue down his path with Quinn and she would rediscover hers with Jesse. Finn's response had been far from what she expected.

I ain't yours for no taking

You must be mistaken

I could never look you in your eyes, and settle for wrong

And ignore the right

Finn was wrong. She knew it standing on that stage. She knew it when she was wrapped in his arms. He was wrong. They were wrong and always had been.

Well I found a boy who loves me more

Than you ever did before

So stand beside the river you'll cry

And let yourself down!

Look how you want me now that I don't need you

A/N: Every time I think of this song, I think of St Berry. This song would be PERFECT for Rachel to sing if her and Jesse ever get back together!
