(This is my second fiction for the Ouran fandom, and is inspired by the song Chasing Cars, by Snow Patrol. I recommend listening to it while reading this if you can. Enjoy!)

The Hitachiin brothers stared out of the large decorative window at the pouring rain. It was the third weekend in a row that their parents had been away for business. Probably over the hundredth time that had happened. They were left to amuse themselves again. Their own little world was sealed shut. They went to find the household maids, to pester them.

We'll do it all,

Everything,

On our own.

It was raining outside, and Haruhi could tell before it had started that it would become a storm. She calmly went to grab a blanket, and as the first clap of thunder came, she dove straight into the cupboard, trembling. She covered her ears and kept telling herself that she'd get through this without any help, the same way she had for years.

We don't need,

Anything,

Or anyone.

A formal party was being held at the Ootori mansion despite the bad weather making an impression outside. Kyoya stood in a line with his older siblings, being introduced mainly as the third son. The son who would likely fail at succeeding his brothers as the heir to his father's company. As he politely greeted the arriving guests with a host's smile, he couldn't help but think about how to tell his father that he didn't understand why he could never be good enough to him.

I don't quite know,
How to say,

How I feel.

Tamaki had received an invitation to the Main house for lunch with his father this morning. He ran through the gardens with a coat over his head to protect himself from the rain. Once inside, he walked through the maze of large corridors towards the dining room, and passed his Grandmother on the way. He acknowledged her with respect, bowing and greeting her pleasantly. She walked past without stopping, whispering profanities about his upbringing as she walked away. Once again he felt like he would never be accepted.

Those three words,

Are said too much.

They're not enough.

Together, they became stronger, more confident; they were happy. The smiles which they gave to the ladies they were hosting were genuine. When they were among friends, they could forget anything that may be going on anywhere else, and be carefree. Because of each other, they were able to develop and grow in a way that they couldn't on their own. They could learn to trust, deal with their fears, act on their thoughts, and believe in themselves.

If I lay here,
If I just lay here,
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
