Father's Day
At Royal Prep, the headmistresses were holding court.
"Okay, everyone." Flora announced. "This coming friday you will be painting portraits of your fathers for Father's day."
"Miss Flora, would it be okay if I painted a portrait of both my dads?" Sofia asked.
"I'm sorry, Sofia, but only one father per portrait." Flora shook her head.
"Sofia, do you want to work with me?" Amber asked. "We can paint a portrait together."
"Okay, Amber." Sofia smiled. "Let's start after school today."
Later that day, back at the castle.
"Let's have dad pose for us at our tea party." Amber suggested. "We'll take turns painting him."
"Good idea, Amber." Sofia smiled.
Amber caught Roland as he walked by.
"Daddy, would you like to come to our tea party?" Amber asked, fluttering her eyelashes.
"Of course, Amber." Roland smiled. "I'd be delighted."
When the tea party started, Sofia was the one who painted him first. Roland noticed her scrawling on the paper.
"What are you doing, Sofia?" He asked.
"Oh, nothing important." Sofia fibbed. "Just... sketching."
"Why don't you have some tea, Sofia?" Amber suggested. "I need to... powder my nose!"
As Sofia joined Roland, Amber skipped around the corner, and starting painting, glancing at Roland through a hole in the hedge.
"Sofia, how was your weekend with Alex?" Roland asked.
"It was okay." Sofia replied. "I help in his shop in the afternoons. By the way, I'm having my new friends over this weekend for a Play date with Amber, James and Vivian."
"How about we turn this little play date into a party for your friends." Roland suggested.
"That's a good idea." Sofia nodded. "Oh, look, here come Amber. Dad, I have to go and start writing Timmy a letter. Be right back."
As Sofia ran off with her paper, Amber took her place.
"Enjoying the tea, father?" She asked innocently.
"...Yes, Amber." Roland replied, a little nonplussed.
After another few rounds of painting and switching, Sofia and Amber had completed their painting. As Sofia went to bed that night, she thought of her biological father, Alex, and what she could do for him for Father's Day. Suddenly, it hit her. She intended to start the next morning.
That friday, they presented it to the class at Royal Prep.
"Very good, girls." Fauna said appreciatively. "Nice job."
"Thank you, miss Fauna." Sofia and Amber chorused.
That weekend, Sofia's friends came to the castle for the play date party. Thanks to Baileywick, there were lots of activities; painting, tea parties, playing pirates... There was something for everyone. They almost wished their fun wouldn't end, but end it did.
"This was fun, Sofia." Timmy smiled. "We should do it again sometime!"
"You can count on that, Timmy!" Sofia smiled
Once Father's Day came around, they showed off the painting to Roland.
"So that's why you kept switching places at the tea party." Roland chuckled. "Excellent work, girls. You really caught my best side."
"Thanks, dad." Sofia smiled.
"You're welcome, daddy." Amber grinned.
"Can I take a quick trip to my dad's village?" Sofia asked. "There's something i want to give him."
"Of course, Sofia." Miranda smiled knowingly. "Just be back before dinner."
"Right, mom." Sofia smiled.
Taking the royal carriage, Sofia travelled to Alex's village, stopping right outside his store.
"Sofia, what brings you here?" Alex asked.
"This." Sofia declared, producing a well-drawn pencil portrait of Alex. "Happy Father's Day."
"Thanks, sweetheart." Alex smiled. "I love it!"
Sofia and Alex hugged.
'I am one lucky girl.' Sofia thought. 'I have two fathers to enjoy Father's Day with!'
The End.
