Hinata did not understand why the false Madara was so fixtiated on Naruto, and the answers he gave. She did not know him and frankly did not want to. Whatever the reason, she would not allow Naruto to lose in a fight, even one of words, when she could do something.
Maybe she couldn't change his mind about certain things but she could, at the very least, give him some comfort.
For that reason, as well as for Neji, Hinata found herself saying everything that she was feeling in that moment and more.
It did not matter that Naruto had never answered her confession. She hadn't said what she did to get a response. In fact she had gone into that battle knowing that she would die but not until she had freed the love of her life at the very least.
She did not blame Naruto for anything even if it did hurt that he seemed so attached to Sakura. No she would not be bitter over it but accept it with the grace that her mother had taught her.
Hinata had been prepared to die. She had expected it when she saw those spears headed toward Naruto. So many that there was no way any one could avoid them. She had runned toward her precious person ready to die if it meant he would live. Her reasons had not been noble in anyway. They had been selfish. If Naruto died here she would be broken and alone in a world where he had, for so long, been her only light. No, she had thought, he would not die here and leave her to her face the world alone. So she had run and turned her back to her coming death choosing instead to watch her love live, protected by her body from certain death. She had not hesitated. Indeed she had acted before she had even had time to process what was happening.
Hinata had not expected Neji to get in the way. She knew he would do anything for her but to die protecting her? That Hinata had no way of knowing. There was no words to express her sadness. But as Neji talked to the person that had changed him so much, to the person that had given him his freedom from ideals that Nejji had allowed to trap him, she had felt at peace with his decision and hers.
Naruto, she could see, was taking it harder. Questioning himself on things that had deeply rooted themselves to his heart since he first learned them. She knew of his vow to protect his friends and not allow them to die. But she knew that was impossible even for someone like Naruto. That's why she found herself teaching Naruto something that her own mothers death had taught her.
Her words impacted him more than she had thought and with renewed effort and spirit he had continued to fight. His confidence had given her back hers as well. And for a moment she had allowed herself to believe that perhaps there was a future for them both together. Holding hands through the trails of life in the good and the bad. That was only a day dream and as Hinata fixed Narutos shoulder temporarily for now she allowed herself to dream at least until reality kicked in.
