It was the first snowfall of the year that Ty Lee had seen. It was the first snowfall that she had ever had the opportunity to see. Living in the Fire Nation didn't give the young girl too many chances to experience snowfall first hand. Although her father had travelled to both the North and South Poles she had never had the opportunity to go along with him and the Circus she had travelled with had never bothered with those areas; performers often fell sick, it upset the animals and the last time they had travelled there the blizzard winds blew away the tent.
Prior to that very second, the only snow Ty Lee had seen was in books that she had previously studied at school.
The young girl was stood out on deck of a Fire Nation ship as they travelled through icebergs in the South Pole. After Azula realised that the girl and the boy the Avatar travelled with were from here, she had decided that they would be taking a little trip there. Perhaps she thought that they would take the risky move of returning here or something; Ty Lee didn't know. Shivering as she wrapped the furs she was wearing around her a little tighter. By Spirits, it was cold here. How people managed to live here she had no idea.
Really, the Fire Nation was a lot nicer.
"Ty Lee."
The voice of the Fire Princess rang out in the silence that surrounded the area, thus capturing Ty Lee's attention. She turned to face her long-time friend with a smile on her lips.
"Azula," she responded, a small giggle escaping her lips as she registered the small clouds that were coming from her mouth.
"What are you doing out here at this hour?" Azula enquired with one graceful eyebrow raised. Really, she had expected Ty Lee to be somewhat excited about her visit here but it was very unlike her to still be awake at this hour. Normally Ty Lee was the first one of the three girls to be asleep wherever they went. All that energy she held had to come at some sort of cost after all.
Never dropping her usual upbeat tone, Ty Lee only smiled back, "I just wanted to see the snow Azula. I've never seen it like, in real life. We don't get too much at the Fire Nation after all. I'm kinda glad because it's so cold!"
Azula seemed to accept this.
Really, the snow was an oddity. It was oddly white and pure. Ty Lee thought that in the daylight it would be so bright it would burn her eyes. She turned her eyes up to the inky darkness above her; even the snowflakes managed to overtake the darkness. That was a good thing.
Sometimes, Ty Lee would see this sort of innocent purity in the Fire Princess. Although she acted all high and mighty a majority of the time there were definitely times when she seemed vulnerable and that made her human. It was this that reminded Ty Lee that Azula was just another person and more than a princess. That innocent purity could sometimes be clouded over by darkness; when Azula acted cruel for instance. Or when she hurt those people around her and caused chaos as she stood and watched over it all.
"I'm going back inside. Let me know when you've seen enough snowflakes. Really, you could see more of these in the morning if you really wanted to see them," Azula haughtily said, turning her back to go back into the warmth of her cabin.
Snapped back into reality, Ty Lee blinked and called out, "I'm coming!" Taking a few steps towards Azula, the young acrobat looked back at the snowflakes. They were starting to fall almost black now as a result of the big Fire Nation ships.
Ty Lee smiled sadly and followed Azula indoors.
