A/N: Written for the Ura/Yoru FC's first contest at Bleach Asylum. My first contest entry and my first Ura/Yoru. How about that?
One summer afternoon, a pair of children wandered through the orchards of the Kuchiki Clan.
"Hey, what's your favorite fruit?" The purple haired girl asked of her blond, male playmate.
The young boy was caught off guard by the question. The conversation they had been having was about how he'd learned to fish.
"Uh, I dunno. I never really thought about it." He replied.
The girl chuckled and ran ahead of her companion. "That's stupid. Everyone has a favorite fruit."
The boy caught up with her easily. "Well, Yoru-hime, what's your favorite fruit?"
The girl stopped long enough to pout. "Didn't I tell you not to call me that? When I'm not at home, I'm just Yoruichi."
"You may not be at home, but we are on a noble's property." The boy shot back.
"So what, Kiskue." Yoruichi wandered until she found a small grove of orange trees. Upon finding a good enough tree, she started climbing.
"What are you doing? Girls shouldn't climb trees." Kiskue asked, trying to get Yoruichi down. She kicked at him, but he persisted. Suddenly, Yoruichi lost her balance and tumbled to the ground.
Kiskue panicked. "Yoruichi! Are you okay?"
Yoruichi sat up. Her kimono was torn and her knee was bleeding. The young girl started to sob. "YOU STUPID BOY! I JUST WANTED AN ORANGE!"
Kiskue grimaced. "Please don't cry. I'm really sorry." He ripped piece of her torn kimono off and tied the makeshift bandage around her knee. "There. All better."
Yoruichi sniffed. "I still don't have an orange."
"I can fix that too." Kiskue kicked off his sandals and was in the tree in a flash. He felt around for a moment before he called down to his injured princess.
"Here, catch." Kiskue tossed down as many oranges as he could and climbed back to the ground. "You forgive me?"
Yoruichi nodded. She was already halfway done with her first orange. Her lips were shiny from the orange juice. A part of Kiskue's chest tightened against his will and he grinned.
"I think I have a favorite fruit now."
Years later, Yoruichi returned from the fourth division office and sighed. It had been a difficult mission that day. Her squad had been in charge of purging a human city of hollows and it hadn't gone as well as planned. Many of her squad members had been hurt and she was also one of the injured.
Capitain Unohana had ordered her to take a few days off to heal. Yoruichi entered her office and winced as a fresh stab of pain shot down her leg. She decided that the first thing she needed was dinner. Yoruichi entered her private rooms only to discover a bowl of large oranges with a small note perched on top of her favorite chair. She grinned and opened the note. Inside she found familiar, closely spaced handwriting.
"I'm glad you're okay. Can I kiss it this time?"
Yoruichi put the note aside and began peeling the first orange. Once her leg was better, she was going to find a way to properly thank her favorite third seat.
