Nick had always dressed in a feminine manner. It was a known fact in the Jonas' household, and nobody ever questioned it. Skinny jeans, tight shirts were what defined Nick. No one had ever stopped Nick and asked if he was gay or bisexual. Everyone just drew their own opinions.

He had never felt the need to flaunt his homosexuality to the world.

It was February 11th, four days before Valentine's Day. Nick nervously held the bouquet of flowers as he approached the locker of his crush. Seeing the profile as they looked through their locker, Nick tapped the shoulder, demanding attention.

"What?" The boy asked before turning around to see Nick's face. "Oh, hey Nick, what's up?"

"Well, um…" Nick stuttered, blushing as he suddenly thrusted out the dozen red roses. "I was wondering if you want to be my valentine."

The boy blinked for a second before coming back to his senses.

"Hell no! What the fuck, Nick? You faggot! I'm not freakin' gay like you!"

Pushing Nick into the locker, the boy walked away, letting loose a chord of profanities.

Sobbing in his room, Nick didn't notice Joe quietly stepping in.

"Hey Nick, what's wrong?"

Nick let out a muffled cry.

"The- The boy I like- he- he- hates me because I'm gay! Is it so wrong to be in love?"

Sobbing even louder now, Joe wrapped his arm around Nick as he cried in his shoulder.

"No, it's not Nick. Some people in this world though, they just don't understand."

Nick's eyes were dry and puffy from crying all of yesterday. He hadn't been sure before if his crush was gay or not, but he now knew his answer. He doubted the boy would ever speak to him again. But against his better judgment, he had gone to school today hoping to try to straighten things out.

The boy let Nick know his feelings in the computer lab at 8:15 am, when Nick was shot in the head by his love.

It was now February 15th and Nick's family was gathered around him on the hospital bed. He had been declared brain-dead on the 13th, but now it was truly time to say goodbye as they turned off the life support.

With one final moment together, Nick was finally let go of.

Drifting in space, Nick looked around before noticing a boy around his age.

"Who are you?"

The boy turned.

"My name is Lawrence King, but you can call me Larry. I was killed because I was gay."

This story is based loosely off of that of Lawrence King, a 15-year-old 8th grader who was shot in the head because of his sexuality. Tomorrow is National Day of Silence, a day to acknowledge and bring attention to the harassment faced by Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, and Transgenders. This story was written just five minutes ago with the purpose of not to be a great, loving story, but to alert people to join the movement.

The National Day of Silence is when you are silent all day to advocate this cause. And you can make a difference. I started my school's Day of Silence alone and thus far have gotten 30 people to join in 1 day. If you fight for your cause, people will notice.

Thank you for reading this story and I hope I raised awareness about this plight. Please no flames, because you are making the world a more hateful place. D:
