A/N: Naruto, psh, I haven't done this in ages. I was feeling a little nostalgic for my first fandom. So here you guys go. Knock your socks off.


"Why?" Kakashi asked. He and Rin sat atop the wall that surrounded the village, on patrol. And as any ANBU member knew that was a total joke. Nothing was going to happen. Nothing ever happened. That left the two to take a little bit of rest.

Well, correction, that gave Rin a little rest. She cleaned her mask to shine. She polished her weapons. She rested, ninja style. Kakashi was ever vigilant. Pacing back and forth, playing with his med bags, adjusting his mask. There were days she swore he needed to calm down. But, she knew he'd never listen to her. (How wrong she was.)

"Why what?" Rin smiled as she polished a rusted shirken.

"Why did you of all people become a shinobi?"

Rin stopped. She placed the kunai on the ground. "Aren't I allowed?"

Although her tone was light and playful, Kakashi shifted uncomfortably. He may have been a child genius, but women, especially Rin, were a mystery. He was merely curious. He didn't mean to offend her in anyway.

"I never said you weren't allowed. I was just…curious. Obito, Sensei, and I, we all came from families where it was expected that we become shinobi. You were a civilian, and well..." Kakashi's voice trailed off.

Rin grinned cryptically. "Come here."

She led him to the edge of the wall. A strong wind whirled the two around. Kakashi couldn't help but notice that Rin's wind blown hair was pretty. Beautiful, even. Beneath them the village was busing. It was a festival night. (Neither was really sure which one it was. They didn't keep track. They never went so they never found a point.) People dressed in their finest roamed the streets. Laughter and shouts broke through the silence of the night. Little children ran and played. The elderly sat and chatted. Even a few shinobi, in standard uniform, had joined in the festivities. Rin smiled affectionately.

"Look." She urged. "This is why.
