Professor Severus Snape looked down at the Great Hall from where he sat at the teachers' table. There seemed to be nothing unusual, the Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws were as dim-witted as ever, and the Griffindors weren't any better. Surprisingly, something seemed amiss at the Slytherin House table. Normally he would have let it slide (after all, what's childhood without the occasional squabble or two?) but the whole force of Slytherin anger seemed to be concentrated on just one person. Of course it wasn't as if scenes like this weren't common, but Slytherins usually didn't fight against each other. Rather, they put all their energy into tormenting the Griffindors.
"What seems to be the problem, Mr. Malfoy?" he said quietly, gliding over to where the Head Boy sat. Draco Malfoy was almost purple with anger, steam nearly issuing from his ears.
"Professor Snape, this...mudblood filth is claiming to be a Slytherin," he spat, with noticeable disgust.
At that moment as if on cue, nearly everyone seated at the table turned to glare at a confused and scared-looking teenage girl. She looked positively terrified, her eyes as big as the golden dinner plates on the table.
The Professor's brow furrowed in confusion. He was sure that she had never gone to Hogwarts before. She had shiny jet-black hair that reached to the middle of her back. Her face was startlingly pale in comparison. She had a delicate nose and mouth, and mysterious eyes.
"I know I've seen those eyes before," the Professor thought to himself. Her eyes were deep green, partly covered by raven colored lashes.
"What is your name?" he asked the nervous wreck of a girl.
Sysili Black, Sir."
