Hey, Mason
Cypress A. Posthumus

Summary: Eddie is preparing for the worst. Guardians are running about since the recent attacks on St. Vladimir's Academy and all he can seem to think about is Mason, his best friend that had been murdered by a Strigoi when he, Mason, and Mia ran away to Spokane, Washington.

Eddie sat in the quad of St. Vladimir's Academy, it was daylight – which meant for vampires, it was night time and safe from Strigoi, but not humans. Recently, there have been attacks on the various Moroi and Dhampir schools that train Moroi in the magic and Dhampir in their combat. Eddie, since graduating and completing his needed services at Court, had been sent back to St. Vlad's to be a campus guardian and bring back hooligans like his old classmate and friend, Rose Hathaway, if anything like that were to happen again.

"Hey Mase," Eddie started, unsure of how he should act while talking to someone who's dead and moved on, according to Rose. "It's been a while, huh?"

Eddie made a face at himself, but continued speaking after checking no one was within earshot, "The school's are getting attacked and I've been thinking about you, bro... you know, about what happened in... in Spokane."

Eddie grunted and continued looking around, "You can't let that happen to me or any of us. We're going into battle soon, something Rose Hathaway herself designed and is even here for. She's here, with Dimitri and Lissa. Lissa is in the infirmary and she's doing okay, but ever since Rose and Dimitri got her back, there's been a lot going on with Strigoi. We've lost a lot of people."

"You know, you've got to keep us safe and sane. I know you're listening, Lissa says you always are. Rose says you are too. I know she talks to you too. We all do." Eddie's head hung low, but he continued because it felt good to talk to Mason, even if he wasn't actually there. An alarm sounded and Eddie immediately jumped to his feet, startled that it was so soon. It sounded like the fire alarm, but that was just what it was supposed to sound like. Eddie knew the real meaning. It meant it was time to fight.

"Hey, Mason..." Eddie turned around to see the bushes behind him, "Keep us safe out there."

Eddie sprinted off and he felt for a moment that someone had been watching him. In truth, Mason's ghost stood in the bushes, but as he figured, Eddie couldn't see him. Mason still held his depressed aura when no one talked to him in a while, but Eddie being uncomfortable and talking to him in the middle of St. Vlad's quad was simply laughable. And that's what Mason did, he laughed, though no one heard it. Mason laughed at his friend's awkwardness and disappeared with a breath of wind.

Sure thing, Eddie. Sure thing...
