Whispered Confessions
Law found him sleeping on deck, leaning against the mast. He kneeled next to Luffy, the boy's even breaths and his rapid heartbeat the only sounds in his ears.
"Luffy," he called gently. Law had taken to calling the boy by his given name recently. They'd been through so much that it felt odd calling him anything else. The boy was deep in sleep, as he usually was, so Law tapped him gently on the shoulder, leaving his hand there. "Luffy," he called again as he shook him.
Luffy's eyelids fluttered open. "Law?" He asked. "It's cold outside. You could get sick," Law said. The boy yawned and rubbed his eyes. "It's okay, I never get sick," he murmured and drifted back to sleep.
Law sighed and rubbed the back of his head, pressing his lips into a thin line. He shook his head, sighed and pulled Luffy's arm around his neck and with a hand on his hip he pulled him up. "Come on Luffy," Law's lips had the hint of a smile as he shook Luffy awake again. "I'm taking you to bed," he stated.
"Fine, but you're going to have to drag me."
Law wasn't a particular patient man before he met Luffy. After all of this time together, he expected to have gained enough patience to become a monk. Alas it seemed it didn't work like that. He felt he'd grown less irritable though. Even if just a little bit. Carrying Luffy to his room would sound insane (because Law would never ever do it, someone probably had to stab him first) but now it seemed completely plausible – even if rather difficult.
He managed to drag Luffy to his room, but once inside he couldn't possibly carry him to his hammock without disturbing the rest of the crew – and he'd rather not have to face all of that. He supposed it wasn't that weird for him to be carrying Luffy to his bed but at the same time he didn't want to be caught doing it. It was none of their business. So Law carried him to his own room.
"You're heavier than you look Luffy," he murmured to no one in particular.
"Am not," he shot back, staring up at Law with half-lidded eyes. Luffy's arm shot up, grabbing Law's shoulder pulling him down to bed. He nearly fell on top of the smaller boy if it wasn't for his reflexes, planting his hands down on the sides of Luffy's head. "Let's go to sleep, Law," the smaller boy pleaded, innocently of course. He didn't know what those words stirred in Law. Desperation, mostly as Luffy was too dense to ever notice him like that but other things Law wasn't quite prepared to face yet.
But Luffy's eyes were already closed, his consciousness drifting away from Law again. His lips trembled, his hands clutched at the bedding. "Why do you always have to be like this?" He muttered. He leaned down, his lips so close to Luffy's he could feel his warm breath. "I swear you do it on purpose…" He pressed his lips softly to Luffy's. "You have no idea, obviously, but you're the most important person in my life," he whispered and kissed his forehead. As he pulled back up, sitting next to Luffy, he felt something touch his hand. He glanced sideways, finding a rather awake Luffy staring at him, blushing, his lips shaking as if he was trying to say something. "You- you- you- really mea- mean that, Law?"
Law's jaw dropped. Oh shit, he'd heard him. Law licked his lips and nodded, a shade of red spreading across his cheeks. "I do," he said still nodding. Luffy grinned at him and tugged at his hand pulling it to his face, gripping it tightly with his own hand. "Me too," he muttered. "Me too," he muttered burying his face in Law's hand.
